Speedometer problem

The speedometer on a Griffith 430 I recently looked at worked on about half the test drive. Can any conclusion be drawn from that?
Does it seem more probable to be the sensor, wiring, connectors or the speedo?

it could be any of those things you mention, probably nothing to worry about but usually a pig to trace , the wiring behind the dash is a nightmare I've got mine in bits at the moment trying to trace a dodgy oil pres gauge and 'jumping' tacho, I'll be posting up some pics tomorrow along with some questions of my own you may want to have a look at the wiring mess before you decide to jump in and re move the dash

The wiring may look like a mess behind there but at least you trace every wire until it disappears into the loom. Not like those modern things with PCBs and all kinds of electrickery.

your quite right it does look a mess but is actually pretty easy to trace and find problems, I found a shorted earth right away, the plan is to beef up the earths and tidy it all up, the fitters who fitted the alarm and tracker seem to have chopped into the loom all over the place, hoefully i'll have all the instruments working correctly again real soon.

I have just had the same problem on my Griffith, Speedo went very erratic for a couple of miles and then just died.

I have bought (but not fitted yet) steve Heaths new speedo sensor kit, which inclues a tester to see where the problem is.
