Two dark blue meat wagons on M1 Northbound at 12:30 today between J36 and J37, being escorted by four marked police cars? They were occupying the two inside lanes of the motorway and creating quite a tailback - I was Southbound so couldn't see any company logos on the blue vans, but looked like Securicor type vehicles.

Surely something or someone important would be transported in something with a little less profile? They seemed to be attracting an awful lot of attention and I just thought it odd thing to do - counterproductive if you see what I mean?

I would imagine they would be transporting high profile criminals. The last time i saw anything similar was on the gateshead western bypass when they were taking the american who shot two cops in north yorkshire to newcastle crown court from durham prison.

My point exactly, but why advertise it? Why not put it/them in a secure metal box in the back of a Megane Scenic? Have it weave about now and again, hog the middle lane and no-one would be any the wiser?

Few weeks ago I was overtaken on the M1 by 10-12 unmarked cars, all small family hatchbacks but with alternate flashing headlights, occupying lanes two and three, spaced a couple of hundred yards apart. All occupied by one or two chaps and all doing an easy ton despite the pissing rain. Wondered what kind of circumstance would warrant that type of formation low flying. Certainly looked like they meant business!

I don't know about the OP but about a month ago I followed an army landrover with a combatted driver 'escorting' a blacked out 53 plate disco - fully blacked out, fronts included! at about 85-90mph up the M5.
I thought it was odd as army landrovers normally sit at 60 ish but these two were making some pace between Bristol and Tewkesbury.
I overtook and then let them pass to see if I could get a look a couple of times but the tint was too good.

Special forces perhaps?

Sounds like high speed training, i see it on the m1 quite often.

Usually chasing a st220 mondeo/dark blue t5 estate.

Ps,

I saw my first new focus rs the other day on the back of a two car transporter, along with a fully stickered up police volvo estate. Possibly new undercover car?

Blue one anyway, expect to see it on police interceptors soon if it was smile

Unless you're joking, I think he meant "following" as in the ST220 or the T5 are fellow police & they are the 'pace' car as suchsmile

No, single rear axle, short wheelbase - same size as either prisoner transport or cash machine securicor wagon.

Nah! Probably the torchwood mobile! Especially if it was coming from the Bristol direction as torchwood was filmed in cardiff
