I bought one of these a couple of months ago and am delighted with it.

There appear to be hardly any for sale.

Have people finally realised what a performance bargain they are or are there relatively few left?

Got mine about 18 months ago and love it. Paid 15.5k for it - wanted the model with the bordeaux red designo leather and BOSE. Had all the wings and boot resprayed under warranty and got the bonnet done at my own expense so its like a new car.

Took an SLK 55 out for a test drive - looks more modern but for me torque isnt as impressive and the performance is no better for another 20k on top of mine... I would probably get 10k trade in now.

I do think its a really underrated car- but I don't really consider it an out and out sportscar. As for numbers- I think it was only about 276 that were imported. One thing i did notice when searching was the lack of later cars..apparently the majority were imported in 2001/2 with 27 in 2003 and 3 in 2004. Hence most cars you will see for sale will be 2001-2

I bought mine back in the spring, on here actually, silver 02 from a guy in North London, in the period I was looking there appeared to be 2,3 or 4 available at any point in time. Some of them were knocked about a little and tended to have 50 to 60K on the clock. The one I bought for £11K is really clean with only 33K on the clock with FMBSH. Similarly I had the arches and boot done under "goodwill", in addition I had a few scuffs sorted out, It looks spot on now, cosmetically it could do with a wheel refurb to make it 100%, likely get this done when I need some new tyres. I had a B service done plus new plugs, nearly £300 for plugs ouch! and it come through with a clean bill of health, other than the insides of your front disks are rusty and all that old pony, I must confess I have been very impressed with my local MB dealer, they are very helpful. Only outstanding issues are minor electrical, seat elements which after speaking to the prevoius poster (thanks again)I will sort out in the winter and the interior light doesnt work when on automatic - the switches in the door pillars make a relay "click" under the dash but no light - possibly faulty switch unit?? any ideas welcome. I have even managed to pick up a spare blower should I ever need it, It was presented to me at a price I couldnt afford to refuse! In summary, nice quick motor to play about in at the weekends and provided they are kept in good order your not going to lose much money on them, who knows with only a relatively small number about they might become quite sought after in the future, certainly the 170 to have at least.

Having been lucky enough to grab a 2003 model some 4 years ago, I've been very impressed with my SLK32 which still has only 31500 miles under its belt.

Boot lid rust, an appetite for tyres, a failed intercooler pump (very common on SLK32 and C32 models) have been the only snags so far. The seat heaters don't seem very effective; so those will get checked / replaced later in the year under Tier 1 extended warranty. Designo seats, so probably quite an expensive job.....

In case you aren't aware, the 'Tier 1' extended warranty people are now trying to claim that their expensive warranty doesn't cover failure of the vario roof system. Which is totally unreasonable!

Had my Linerite Blue for over 4 years now. It has done 81k miles and runs like new with no rust on the body or brakes although it is garaged. Goes like stink and is fairly anonymous blending in with the other SLK models so it doesn't attract the Corsa driving jokers. I almost sold it a few months back but whilst taking a test drive I sold it to myself all over again.

Have fitted mine with chrome hoops and automatic roof remote control.

I went along to a dealer a while back and he was talking about 7k trade in I don't think they know the car as it is rare. I wasn't looking to trade in but I went in that car and he asked and I was curious to know.

I just checked and there are none on AT except this pretend one SLK32 not
