Ive heard great things about ride drive.
Ex cops, who are based locally to you and who know your local roads.
Give em a ring?

A colleague of mine is an observer for the IAM, would you like me to try and get a contact number for him? He's based in York though... I think IAM or RoSPA would give you more confidence in your abilities to read the road and judge appropriate speed. I sat both tests as a teenager and they made a massive difference. Strongly recommend.

I work for Ride Drive, give Julian a ring and tell him Glenn told you to call. Im sure he will fix you up with a driving day (or half day) suitable for your needs, either with me or whoever is available on your day of choice.

Its a relaxed day with lots of input from your advisor, who has a lifetime of experience, driving cars quickly but safely, especially around corners wink

That looks really good, I quite fancied advanced driving a few years back but was put off by the fact that it didn't include going quickly safety.

Might leave a few hints for the missus near Xmas !

Ride Drive is far better than IAM if you want to learn how to drive at pace safely.

If I could remember who the chap was that took me out I'd give him a call just for another half day refresher yes Lived at Pollington and was a retired Police instructor but that's all I can remember.

You could do the IAM, but that would involve joining and parting with cash. Well worth it imo though.

You could give the IAM a call, they should be able to give you the number of a local rep, who could then tell you when and where your local meets are. You could go along and chat to them, go on a demo drive before spending anything.

First port of call: IAM House +44 (0) 20 8996 9600

..then ask about local meets and pos get a locals number from there.

IAM Weblinky

I certianly think its worth while, I did the test years ago and my old man used to be an observer before packing it in a couple of years ago.

I did my IAM 30 years ago and found it useful although everything was taught under the speed limits

I then joined the local Advanced Driving Club in Bradford called the Roadcraft Club - after the Police Training scheme of the time
Once in the club I was alloted an instructor who free of charge would go out with me in my car and instruct me for an hour or so every week.
This then led to their own "Roadcraft test" which was much harder to pass than the IAM test I had recently done
I was lucky that my instructor was an ex Police Class 1 instructor, who once I had passed their test then took me on further lessons where we increased the speeds
That instruction was the most fun and informative I have ever had to date(and was totally free!!!!)

So it may be worth seeing if there is still these Advanced Driving Clubs around and in your area
as I got extremely good instruction FOC which has stood me in good stead since
