Tigers. What they like?
Discussion
Never really fancied a 7 style but I'm finding that I quite like the look of Tigers out of all of them. I'm sort of sold on beauty but kit car manufacturers can't do that
. Then I'm sold on power and the classics I can afford don't do that. What's it like living with a Tiger? Road use predominantly.

This is one of those questions that depends very much on who built the car and how good a job they did.
I've had mine on the road for a year and a half and 2500miles without any major issues. Any problems i've had generally related to the carbs detuning themselves (so it runs a bit rough) so I'd recommend you go for injection. With this sort of car its likely you'll need to do a bit of tinkering every so often to keep it in shape.. though generally problems will be easily solved.
Other niggles include:
The clutch cable melted but that was my fault for routing it betweeen exhaust pipes (30 mins to replace inc going out and buying a new one)
Oh and my wipers broke but as it has no doors or a roof thats not been much of a hindrance.
In terms of general usage
Insurance will be cheap (depending on age but esp on a limited mileage policy) (I'm 25 and pay £250 for 3k miles a year + both parents on the policy)
Great fun to drive obviously, they make a lot of noise, turn heads etc.
Oh and speedbumps are a right royal PITA.
The people at Tiger have always been very helpful when I've had a question
If/When I build another I would happily have anopther Tiger which I think says a lot.
www.tigerownersclub.co.uk also a very useful resourse.
And I think Tigers are some of the best looking types of seven style car around..

the one i tested was built at around 91. dont remember the model.
but it was so narrow that it was a snug fit, even for me..and i´m very slim.a friend of mine (which looks rather "normal" built for a men) didnt reach even down onto the seat as his backside stuck between the sill and the middle-tunnel.
a westfield narrow body (which i tested directly after the tiger)was large by comparison.

i have a supercat, had it for a little over a year - although had it off the road for about 4 mths due to engine rebuild. i love it. for a 7 style car quite roomy without resorting the the out or proportion dimensions of a 'r/hood'. parts for the cat based on sierra, so not bad to source bits/bobs that might need replacing/upgrading. very helpful owners site where folks are happy to answer questions and generally help out. active regional clubs in some parts of the country. road use: some local guys have tiger sixes with 150-170bhp - plenty fast enough on road, mines tweaked to 230 and goes well on track. biggest gripe amongst many owners is panel gaps/fit, but ultimately they are a fair bit cheaper than say westie/caterham - pays your money/takes yr choice. personally i didnt like the gap that you'll see between bonnet Cat and side panel, so had that sorted when i decided to change the colour scheme. mines insured for 3k miles, i suspect i'll have to up that as i try and get out for decent runs every weekend. great fun. the guys on teh tiger forum are approachable - why not ask if anyone has one in your area - site free to register, if there's someone nearby i'm sure they'd take you out for a run.
Thanks for the replies chaps. That's a good tip about the forum. I'll see if there's anyone local who'd be willing to take me for a spin. I like the Tigers because they seem to have a slightly more purposeful stance than the other 7s. And Z Cars used to be an agent for Tigers as I recall, which sort of recommends them to me.
