Ill set the scene, was sitting down last night for my dinner at about 8 when the buzzer goes off to have someone let into the building, so i look at my video thing to see some guy, he says he has a letter for me,

me: helloooo?
him: i have a letter for you
me: who am i? whos it address to? can you hold it up?
him: it requires a sig from you, can you let me in.
me: hold the letter up to the screen please.
him: no, im from the tv license people, can i come in?
me: no sorry.

thought that the end of it.

2 mins later get a knock on my door, somehow he has got into the building. cheeky bugger. i think about not opening the door but in the end though fk it ill amuse him. i open the door.

me: hello
him: you dont have a tv license
me: yes i know, i dont recieve tv signals, i dont need one.
him: yes you do, i can tell.
me: well your wrong, i dont have one. goodbye. (i close the door)
him: im coming back soon with the bailiffs to get you.

so what do i do? can he really "get me" its rather annoying and to be honest scared the st out of me. and it made my dinner go cold.

do i have to prove i dont pick up tv?
im moving out in 3 weeks can i just ignore it till then?
can they gain entry to my flat in anyway without my permission?
do i have to talk to these people? what powers do they have?
can they really tell if i am picking up tv signals?

First - do you have a TV (or device capable of picking up the signal)?

Do you watch iPlayer ever?

If so, you're going to court, and you're going to get assfisted. Big fine.

If you have equipment capapble of receiving a TV signal, get a licence at your next place, you pikey smile

In the meantime, continue telling them to do one, but make damned sure you dont have anything that resembles a TV Tuner on the premises (i.e. TV, VCR, Laptop TV tuner). LCD and plasma without a tuner are fine, as are mobiles and laptops, or DVD players.

Its not up to you to prove you dont have, its up to them to prove you do, but you will have piqued this guys interest now, so he will be back at some point (though as its Crapita, it might be a little later, after you have moved out)

if you really dont have a TV and therefore have no need for a TV licence, why not just allow them in to see that you dont.

if you do have one why didn't you buy one your cheap bd, there only about 100 quid.

Fecking Government Gestapo.

Do you actually have an aerial with cables coming in to your home? Are these attached to a TV or do you not have a TV?

From the Gestapo website.

You must be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. It makes no difference what equipment you use - whether it’s a laptop, PC, mobile phone, digital box, DVD recorder or a TV set - you still need a licence.

Some of the excuses on the site are funny though.

I didn't buy a license as i dont watch tv, its mostly crap.

i do have a TV, its a plasma jobby which has a PS3 connected to it but i dont have an ariel going into it.. it has a built in tuner though i presume.

i didnt let him in to check as i wasnt sure about the rules etc,

what are the odds of him coming around in the next 3 weeks?

and no, im not buying one for 3 weeks non tv watching, im saving for my next broom broom mobile..

This is simple.

If the original poster has ever watched a TV transmission on a TV, PC, or other device, he is going to get a big fine.

I beleive you're okay to use iPlayer without a tv license.

I suggest putting it somewhere that isnt in reach of the tv aerial cable, then cover the aerial cable in dust and whatnot
