Hi guys, I'm in troubles with one of the remote controllers of my XKR '99 m.y.; the car was one month mad with battery off in Jaguar and now one of the remotes doesn't work. I know there is a procedure to set again both the remote controllers (e.g.: press two buttons, then...) but I don't find this proceeding, may You help me, please? bow

Sorry man its back to the dealer or independant to re programm your key fob. It may well be no good.Be prepared for replacements, though it might be just the batteries. Check out the Autologic diagnose website. They should tell you where the nearest Italian specialist is. With autologic diagnostic equipment he will be able to re program the fobs easily and It will be much cheaper, around £50 for the fob and £25 to re program( whatever that is in Lire
best of luck, hope this helps

I thought it was something like that and flashing the lights so many times.

Whoa! This procedure is well documented on here, im sure. Something like key to position 2, flash lights 5 times then hold back stalk, then wait for beep, then press any button on remote.
Memory is a bit rusty on that, but have done it myself, and it worked a treat.
Have a search on here, someone will have the correct procedure.

Here you are

Hold headlight flasher back
Turn ignition key to position one
Flash headlights 4 times
Alarm will enter programme mode - it'll beep and the led on the J gate console will flash
Have all your transmitters to hand and press the lock or unlock button on each one once
The alarm should sound when you press the button. If it dosen't then the transmitter is obviously not working
Tha alarm should sound a total of five times to complete the programming - this means you can programm up to 5 transmitters, but if you have less than that to programe you'll need to press the buttons more than once on each one to finish
If you've got two for example press the button on one three times, and the other one twice.

Might be worth replacing the batteries in the remotes whilst you're at it, if the batteries are weak the remote will tend to loose it's programme. That may be the real reason why one works and the other does not. When you change the batteries you'll have to be quick as more than a couple of mins of no power will also cause programme loss and so will pressing any of the buttons on the remote without the batteries in.

The contacts under the buttons in the remotes fail too, giving the effect that some of the functions on the remote work whilst others don't. This indicates that the programming is OK but individual functions have failed. I cured mine - when it refused to lock but everything else worked - with a shot of swich cleaner followed by a blast from an air line and some robust button pushing. Been fine sincesmile

Hi Jaguar Steve,

An inevitable question maybe....I have a 2003/4 S-Type 4.2 V8 SE: will exactly the same procedure work for me should I have the same problem with the keys?

Hi Leaper - Info I have relates specificaly to the XK and X308. It could be ( and would make sense if it did ) it'll be the same for other Jaguars but I'm honestly not sure.

Quite right Steve, I naturally reach our Autologic nowadays without a second thought and forgot about the original process !. I don`t think it works on the later cars but will check.

Excellent smile

idea Spend the money you've saved by fixing it yourself on a tank of petrol and go out for a sunday afternoon drive in your beautiful scenery.

Sunny Italian countryside in an XKR convertable?..

Envious?...

Me?...

Nah... wink
