Got a lad working on a 10 day work experience thingy here. Seems to think that its cool to wear your jeans low over half of your arse showing your shreddies. I have advised him that as far as I know, it originated in American prisons, to show others it means you're 'available' He doesnt seem to agree. Thoughts?

Worst fashion trend of the current generation, by far. Looks absolutely ridiculous.

Tell him, regardless of whether he is 'available' or not, that's no way to turn up to work!

Men should cover up. I don't know the origins though.

I quite like it on ladies.

Nothing to do with avaialbility - it's to replicate the look of having had your belt taken away when in prison.

Known, I understand, as 'jailing'.

I is so down with the kids, fo shiz.

I'd heard it came from yank prisons, but not as a way of signalling you were up for some backdoor action.

I've been told it's because they aren't allowed belts so their jeans end up falling down slightly. Stupid teenagers then copy the 'style' because it makes them look like the 'hard' people in prison. Not sure if that's true though.

ETA: Beaten to it.

I thought it originated from hand me down jeans in poorer areas of the Us of A, but also heard the jail no belt theory?

My jeans tend to "hang low" when I'm drunk and dancing around like a prat (even with the aid of a belt, proper/smaller waisted jeans), so I've invested in some comedy pants.

I'd like to know how it's achieved without the jeans actually falling down?

Are special jeans required?

I thought “jailin” was where people had shorter trousers as if they were wearing a ring around their ankle.

I thought this low slug jeans thing was to suggest they had a big cock, as it was all that was keeping them up….

Staples.

They staple the trousers to a point on the upper legs to stop them from dropping.

Maybe.
