What's the general consensus on these, I took a Day Date into my local AD today for a service and couldn't help be drawn to this, was offered what appeared to be a good deal but thought I would check out prices/views elsewhere before going back in to buy?

They seem to have quite a following, started off at £3600, I am not sure how much they cost now..what were you offered? The new clasp/bracelet is much better than on previous rolex models.

If I had the money I would. Stunning. Something not often mentioned is you can shorten the bracelet down to 4 links on the clasp side, so if you like me you have a small wrist you don't have to end up with the clasp way over to the right, half way round your wrist. Many owners say they have become accustomed to the polished bracelet links. I have to say seeing them in the flesh it doesn't look right to me compared to the classic all brushed look.

Only thing that would put me off is the extra bling factor, they seem to really stand out and I fear could be a mugger magnet, which is a shame for something obviously designed for the frequent traveler.

I tried one (non ceramic) last weekend was completely shocked at the 'cheap' feel. Just seemed a bit mickey mouse for a £4k watch. Looking at the Sinn UTC's now.

was offered it for £3900 online and matched by my AD, which is about 10% and seems ok to me, they are a bit more blingy than the brushed steel submariners etc but to be honest that makes it a bit more special in my eyes, not in your face but enough shiny stuff to make it dressy, i'm also told that the submariners etc are due to have the bezel upgrade so....

The new ceramic bezelled model is a very different watch to its predecessor - larger, heavier and the clasp is hugely improved. As others have said, it's also a lot more conspicuous, not just because of the half-polished links but also because of the size and the shiney ceramic bezel.

Don't get me wrong, the older rolex straps *must* be fit for purpose and i've not heard of them falling to bits but after wearing an SMP it just felt fly-away. I still love the actual design of the GMT's just couldn't justify the extra £2k over the likes of omega, sinn etc

I have this watch, and while I understand what people are saying about it being blingy, it doesn't attract as much attention as you'd think. Don't forget people on this watch forum look at watches. Normally people don't much smile

I say go for it. I have no regrets with buying it and I wear it every day in some of the most dangerous cities in the world. I only take it off at certain times in places like Brazil as a pre-caution. It's not that flashy really.

It's a gem for a frequent flyer and you don't see that many of them. The best modern rolex bar none.

Darko, you'd be surprised at how tough these original Oyster bracelets/claps are. I've just picked up a 30 year old Rolex Explorer II, sure its seen some use. But it's away at my Rolex watchmaker for a full service, when it's back I'll expect it to give good use. You're right they are fit for purpose, even if they do look a little 'agricultural'.....;)

Got it, sorry for the crap pic, it really is a beautiful watch, not too bling but enough to make it dressy, i compared it side by side wiht a Sub and it looks far more special IMO and the extra 2k over something like my CoAxial Seamaster is justified to my mind, horses for courses

I've had mine for five months now and love it. I think the ceramic bezel is a nice contemporary touch and overall the watch feels resolute and solid. Right away I felt that I'd be keeping it for a long time.

If I paid 3.5k for a new Rolex now, could it be seen as 'an investment'? Does the value rise or fall a little then hold a good price?

Thanks guys.

It could be seen as 'an investment', but only if your wife hasn't heard that excuse before...

No. But it probably wont depreciate as much as similarly priced watches from other brands.
