Last MOT i got an advisory on my front flexi hoses so thought id have a look at them to check i order the correct ones as i dont really want my hoses popping. When i inspected them they didnt really seem perished at all just slighly grazed a the top join and i wouldnt put it past the garage i took it to to try and replace anything they possibly could. this is the best picture i could get

any opinions would be appreciated as ford want £65 for a pair of hoses which i dont really want to pay as long as the current ones are safe
thanks

1. What grazed them in the first place. Could it occur again. Could it ever reach a point where you lose all braking pressure?

2. Do you like the idea of instantly having no brakes?

Get some new ones. Chances are you can get a non-Ford set for a lot less than £60. But if/when you replace them, make sure that nothing can EVER rub against them.

i decided to order some new ones when i found them for £15 a pair. The only thing that can touch them is the spring that they are located in which is i assume to stop them kinking. The spring would aslo effectivly stop anything else from touching the hose

This is the spring in question

Looks good.

Fit them, bleed the system up and off you go. If nothing can touch it, other than the spring (which as you say stops the hose from kinking by encouraging the bend to take place over a distance) then you'll be a happy chappy.

There's nothing obvious in the picture that would contact the hose there, so I suspect the matt surface is caused by the hose starting to perish. Hopefully it's a long way from catastrophic failure, but I think the MOT tester has probably done you a favour by pointing this out now before it is too late.
