I have spotted a Y reg one on autotrader that looks awesome. Wondered if anyone on here has or has had one and could give some feedback.

I have a B3s, which is the 3.4. The best car I have had yet! Quick, agile, smooth if you want, with a feeling of utmost quality and build.
check out the Alpina Register ( www.thealpinaregister.com )

Watch out for high oil consumption on the 2000 - 2001 cars..

Doesn't seem to affect performance but they do seem to use alot.

I have had a 2000 B10 3.3 for a year and a half now and yes, it does use a fair bit of oil (about 1 litre/1000 miles - which is about normal, I believe). I have just bought 20litres of valvoline 10W-60 off ebay for £125 so that should last me a while.
I would say go for it. I spent more than I planned to on the car but don't regret it at all. Great car to drive (mine is manual, though), as fast as you want but very smooth and comfortable if you just want to pootle along.
Servicing isn't expensive if you take it to a good indie (see the alpinaregsiter.com).
Make sure all the pixels on the dashboard are working (not a big deal now as there's a guy in Southampton who fixes it for £80 rather than a new dash from Alpina for £1200+).
Tyres are expensive if you go for the Michelin PS2s recommended. I've stuck with them but am considering cheaper ones next - if they're crap I'll just turn off the traction control and have fun with them.
I assume if things go wrong they can be expensive but I've been lucky that nothing major has gone (Alpina parts tend to be more expensive than BMW).
I'm not sure about comparisons to other performance cars or BMWs as I went from a 1.8 Mk 3 Golf to the Alpina.

P.S. First post as I've been 'lurking' up to now but this topic needed replyng to

But they are generally cheaper than M-Division parts which is probably the best way to compaire the costs.
