bmw vs mb vs audi
Discussion
i have owned a 330d for two years now and despite coming close to trading for an impreza sti, a masserati 3200 and a skyline - i have never been able to. after recently sellin a bike engined kit car after 4 months due to woefull reliability issues and it breaking down on me, I now put reliabilty up there with speed so would find it hard to leave bmw now! only 24 - is that a bit bad?!?!?
anyway - i had been telling my mates that the other day and they asked why not a merc or audi? I said mercs are traditionally seen as a more luxurious drive and not quite the same driver feel etc, whereas the BMW is traditionaly seen as the sportier drive etc, but didnt really know where the audi fits in? ive been in a A3 3.2 and it was pretty plasticy and cheap looking to say that its a top of the range model!
the s4 sounds good but looks a bit dated and its just not an m3 is it??????
so basicially good and bad points on mercs and audis compared to bmw's please!

Since you mentioned reliability, BMW have slipped a bit but they're not bad compared to Audi or MB. http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/top10_worst.html...To the bloke with the pictures above.....
Seriously get a clue you angry fanboy.
I own a Beemer and an Audi and have owned a couple of both as well as working at a German car tuners for a few years and working on both.
They are very different styles of motoring.
The main advantage of the BMW is that with the RWD powertrain even a base spec model is still dynamically good, I was surprised that my mates 316i is still decent to drive whereas an A4 1.6 would be gash.
The big advantage of the Audi is the interior and build quality (except the Golf platform cars, A3) Due the the position of the engine the front legroom and cabin is far superior, the interior of mine is the best car interior I have ever had, superbly built, spacious and comfy. Also my S4 has done 85K now and is imaculate underneath, I cannot in any way fault the build quality.
With regard to the "S4 its not an M3 is it" comment. I took my mate (who works for a BMW main dealer) out in my B6 S4 and while we agreed it felt heavier he could not believe the entry speeds and mid corner grip it could achieve on rough B-roads.
I think they have two different philosiphy's, the M3 is designed go fast and give as much feedback/fun as possible whereas the S4 is designed to solely cover miles as fast as possible on any surface.

Reread my post. Try to understand what I'm getting at.
Yes you seem to be saying that becasue the VAG group have intelligently re-used old tooling from the old A4 to make cut-price Taxi's for the southern-euro market that all Audi's are complete Bulls
t.Seriously mate, you sound like an utter cretin.

LOL
Would you not feel annoyed if you bought an A4 for 35k and then someone in their Seat turns up with it looking like a complete replica for 20k ?
Probably the biggest insult you could give to a customer!
Then again people who buy Audis can't possibly be the smartest
Man you get worse. Would you not feel annoyed if you bought an A4 for 35k and then someone in their Seat turns up with it looking like a complete replica for 20k ?

Seriously you are an angry Zealot, if you think this ridiculous argument makes all Audi's "Complete Bulls
t" then you are a cretin and not worth wasting my time with.To the OP
Audi - great build quality but I have found the ride pretty hard (and in some instances crashy)
Merc - old mans choice and build quality can be iffy and went through a period of cheapness
BMW - best drive of the three
Horses for courses really.
Finally S4 isnt an M3 - of course it isnt, and nor was it designed to be
and to pick up the seat/audi poster - you pay 50k for a 3 series and get the same basic interior as a 20k 3 series - whats the difference?

In any of the Audi, BM or Merc cars you get the same interiors as the base model, just better seats and more goodies and maybe some badges, wouldn't make financial sense to have a separate interior for top end models. I Had an S4 for 10 days as a courtesy car.....the most boring car I have EVER driven and the quality was no better than my M3, also driven a few mercs, the 3 series is by far the more spitited driver chassis, if you fancy a change then there really is only Porsche that can better the BMW driver experience at this level IMO

I have to agree, I had an '09 Audi A4 S-line as a courtesy car recently and the ride was horrible, was actually glad to get back to the comfort of my '03 S4.Audi - great build quality but I have found the ride pretty hard (and in some instances crashy)

With the M3 - S4 issue I thinks it's the wrong comparison, I think the S4 is more comparable to the 335i/335d and the RS4 is comparable to the M3. People don't realise how massively differnet the S4 and RS4 are.

They're both the BMW 3 series with different specifications inside
What's your point ?
It's not like you're finding the 3 series interior in a Roller now is it

My 2p worth. If you want a mobile sofa, get a Mercedes Benz.
Cosseting to some, wafty to others. You won't
be able to tell what you are driving over, and most
of the drivers of this brand are older and so don't care.
They did go through a real rough patch with quality
a few years ago.
If you need 4WD, most of the top end of the Audi range
will suit. If you don't need 4WD, or can't afford it,
the bottom end of the Audi range are reasonable German
FWD chariots. The FWD efforts are not normally a car
chosen by a keen driver, however.
Which leaves BMW. Hmm.
I'm biased. I've owned one for six years and I find
them to be the best thing since sliced bread. If you
can put up with the disparaging remarks from other drivers,
the cars themselves, ignoring the marketing, are textbook
examples of RWD keen driver's cars.
Don't expect any of the South German stuff mentioned
to be cheap runners. They are at the M&S end of the market,
not Asda.
You want cheap, get a Ford or a VW.
5th gear did a track test....S5 v/s 335i,
and very often people say that RS4 should be v/s 335i ...However, I think that the RS range is the response to the M division on BMW...so really, the RS4 should be compared to the M3...
Merc= old mans' car unless its amg...
Audi= the RS and S range are awesome...but I think in terms of driver's "raw" experience, the M will lead....
BMW= better value!!! if you want great handling and bhp at a decent price...

You buy an Audi if you hate BMWs or Mercs.
I have never seen the attraction in the Audis.

HOW IS THAT NOT TAKING THE PISS !!!!!!!!!!
God I would be so f
ked off if I had that A4. Says it all imo. Audi, absolute utter bulls

To be fair, I agree with this postI have never seen the attraction in the Audis.

t.Its almost an exact copy
The bottom picture is of a Seat Xeos (can't spell) which is the older B6 A4, the tooling has been re-used to provide cheap semi-luxury motoring and taxi's mainly to southern Europe, very much like the Skoda Superb is/was to Eastern Europe.
How saving money and re-using tooling to provide cheaper motoring and taxi's to new markets makes all "Audi's utter Bulls
t" is beyond me. Are all VW's bulls
t becasue of the Skoda Octavia? Are all Merc's Bulls
t becasuse of those cheapo' E-class taxi's they sell in Spain? There really are some numpties on Pistonheads
My 2p...may bore you here!!
Had an A4 Tdi...lovely car and covered the miles with ease
RS4...Oh my word what a car..
A5 3.0 Tdi...Superbly quick but the offset pedal position upset me, also the Audi interior is starting to bore me!
535d..DMS's in the case (my first BMW as well)...What an engine...and a 'functional' interior, not as 'pretty' as the Audi I admit, but now I'm beginning understand the BMW followers...
MB...took an E-class 320cdi and E55 AMG on a test drive...no thanks...can't put my finger on it...
335i...wow wasn't expecting this...got me converted now...
E60 M5...That's it...I'm now an official BMW convert...
Current...535d M Sport Touring...Do you really need anything else?
I can see many people converted from Audi to BMW but not vice versa...but then I could be talking s
te...I usually do! The MB just doesn't fit...

wow - pretty impressive selection of motors there. did you own them all or just have a drive of a mates etc? its just that a lot of them are only about 3 years old! and why go back to the 535d? Had an A4 Tdi...lovely car and covered the miles with ease

I think im gonna go for a 335d next. my mate has a remapped one and its the best all round car ive ever been in! Recently been interested in 335i's - mainly for the sound. I know this is probably massivly unjustified but my old man's 528 has such little mid range torque that i cant help thinking all petrols will feel like that after my diesel! suppose the two turbos will help in that department. cant shake that thought though! suppose ill have to take one for a spin.
