SAS Team(s) Wanted
Discussion
Folks,
Deep in the centre of our SAS homeland we're having a summer of community events. And there's one that I think would be really cool ..... and that's a go kart competition.
Basically a team designs and builds a go kart from scratch, then race it down the hill in Sunninghill Park. It's being sponsored by Sytners BMW, and there will be a multitude of prizes, for best looking, fastest, etc, etc.
I'd be quite happy to dedicate my garage as space to build it, but the key question is if anyone would be up for giving it a go?
We've got to confirm a team in the next few weeks - then have the summer to build it, where it's at the end of August/mid september where it's raced, etc, etc. They will also be on show for the carnival at mid-september.
I don't know what the rules are, etc, etc (limit to members of team, etc) - but I should have all the details on Monday night - so can confirm then.
If you're up for it, then respond below, and I'll update this list

I've had a cunning plan .....
Natually, we're going to need to meet quite a few times (at least weekly), and I guess a drinking establishment would be best suited. But that's going to cost us a few quid ....
So, I've been thinking about getting all the local companies to 'sponsor' us. So basically, they chip in £20 or £30, and in return we give their logo a prominent spot on the cart, and name the team after them.
So, we'd end up with something like ....
The PH SAS Waitrose Stems of London florist Sunningdale Motors Chatts bar Hamiltons restaurant Royal Oak public house the local butchers estate agents Lenovo PCs local accountants mobile
Should be good for at least £250 - which would cover us for a few nights on the beer
Naturally there will also be a lot of press coverage - so a win-win all round

given I'm mechanically inept
Shane - it's just a matter of banging a few bits of wood together, nicking 4 wheels from a waitrose trolley, a bit of rope to steer and a lick of paint.I'm sure we can manage that between us.
And I'm sure we'd value both yours and Frasers input

But as Al says, it's all about unsprung weight - so we need lots of input.
Over a beer or 2 of course.
Keep it coming guys. We could even get 2 teams out of this. I'll ask PH if they'll sponsor it (free t-shirts?).

Wicked
I popped up to the Race for Life event up on Ascot race course this afternoon (Sue is doing her stint tonight). I just missed the guys who's arranging it - so I've emailed him - so hopefully will get some info soon.
I don't know if the idea is a fancy red bull soap box type thing, or just a simple go cart/soap box with the aim of getting down the hill the fastest, or something else. As soon as I get the facts I'll add them.
