Vintage Omega Issues
Discussion
As posted on the Wrist Check thread - this arrived today...
60s Omega Geneve. Unfortunately the glass has developed some stress fractures during shipping. Currently trying to liaise with the Ebay dealer (stimpsonlondon - anyone dealt before?) to get it replaced. He has told me not to go to an Omega dealer as it will end up costing more than I paid for the watch (£125). Will any other jewellers be able to replace? Such a shame as it is lovely, I don't really want to have to send it back!

Try Steve at www.rytetimewatchrepairs.co.uk - quick turn around good service and very reasonably priced.
Hi HBM,
I have an Omega..it's simply a Seamaster, JB first edition 12 years old. It has just got to a flat battery and it's time for a service anyway. This will be the second time around.
Anyway, after some research, I have decided to have the work done by this firm:
www.swisstimeservices.co.uk
I gather they are the only fully accredited Omega service company in the UK, and they specialise in older Omegas.
I decided to use them, and as they are maybe 70 or so miles from where I live I took my Omega there last week. I was very pleased with their customer focus and I met an engineeer who gave the watch a good once over....back off etc... and gave me a written quote on the spot that I accepted. Also, for people who take their watches to their factory they bump them up the queue so I was told I'd get the watch back in two weeks, whereas if I had taken it to a high street watch shop it would have taken maybe 2 months, and it would have cost considerably more due the high street firm's mark up.
I also have a 1960s Rotary chronograph which is rather unusual and in need of significant attention. The engineer said they will be happy to do the work but declined to give an estimate as they want to see the watch first. I think I might use them for this work too, but I'll decide once my Omega is returned and I can see how they have done.
While I was there the engineer noticed I was wearing my Porsche Design PO11. He said they can service that too for a really good price, so something for the future maybe.
So, maybe you might wish to consider using this firm for your vintage Omega, especially as they claim to specialise in old Omegas.

Hi HBM,
This is a follow up to my post on 18 July.
Much to my surprise I got a call from the service company yesterday, I paid for the service etc, and the watch arrived back here today, together with the old parts now replaced. So, job done in a week rather than the usual 2-3 months through a high street chain. Cost is £180 which is as per Omega's required service charging structure. It's a bit early for me to say that all is to my satisfaction but the watch is working fine, and the refurbished bracelet and case etc looks excellent.
At the moment I feel I can definitley recommend this firm.
