When are they going to make Drink Drive adverts hard hitting and effective again in the UK?

Typical UK ad.

Which one gives you more pause for thought?

I still think of an anti-drink drive advert from long before I was old enough to drive whenever I hear that 'In the summertime' song. That was pretty hard hitting if I remember correctly.

But surely people turn off these quite a lot - they know how they work, they've been shocked before. Or the shock lasts about 5 minutes before your mind wanders onto other things.

When I used to live in Germany they they had smashed up cars by the side of the road with a dummy hanging out of the windscreen covered in fake (obviously) blood with an anti drink drive sign next to it.

Much more effective imo, certainly stuck in my mind even though I was too young to drink or drive back then, should do the same thing here, though I can see it possibly causing a few issues as it did look pretty lifelike driving by

I remember the first time I saw the American advert, I was just absolutely shocked, it was horrible and definitely got it's point across.

The problem with the UK versions is that they don't get a 'personal' message across, they are just actors (often bad actors) whereas that American advert really gets to you as a 'person' and if it doesn't then there is probably no getting through to you.

That UK one is just wierd and conveys no message to me at all....

"if I drink and drive my imaginary wife will be nagging me?" - So?

"If I drink and drive I will lose me job" - I don't have a job.

"If I drink and drive and will have to sell my car cheap?" - No I won't

Whereas that American one (I just saw it for the first time) did genuinely affect me.
