Im currently living china (Wudangshan in Hubei province)and found a smallpuppy which was being terrorized by local children (if you have ever had the displeasure of seeing how dogs are treated in china you would understand).

I think she is about 5 weeks old (she can just about bark and has milk teeth and can run around)- unfortunately I do believe she is too young to be away from her mum.

Im currently feeding her milk, but should I be giving her solids? There is no such thing as puppy food her either frown

She likes to lick my fingers alot, and tries to test her teeth I think by gently biting me- is this normal?

She is a very beautiful dog, my main aim is to get her back with her mum, but for the time being Ill be googling for more info, but any advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks very much,

adam

scrambled egg and cooked chicken will see her fine until you can find a decent enough dry food. Dont feed her pouches or tins unless you want the smelliest poo you have ever smelt.

Once you have a dry food that she will eat just add some water to soften it up for her .

I'm not really sure on puppies but when my Cocker Spaniel was very ill, about a week before he died; the vet told me to feed him cooked plain rice and chicken. I can only assume that this is inoffensive to their stomach. Unfortunately mine died from cancer, a month after my dad died from cancer.

Good luck with your pup, and well done for caring. I have a Springer Spaniel now whose owners didn't have the time for. He's brilliant. Dogs are brilliant.

very cute little pup there.

I suspect that you are stuck with it (such a hardship wink ) as i doubt you will get it back with its mum.

Asian diet for dogs, we often feed ours with rice and chicken and it works a treat for the beasts!! Also reduces the "aroma" of the poop!

edit to add - she will become a bighting monster for the next 4 or 5 months as her puppy teeth come out and the adult ones come through!

I don't have any advice to give, but she is lovely. How could anyone terrorize that?

I'm sorry I don't have anything more constructive to add. frown

I hope you keep her cloud9

Can be brought back, but I think there's a 6 month quarantine period - not really best for a pup.

As above, chicken and rice, chopped up small, and she'll need feeding every few hours.

I do hate the chinese when it comes to "animal welfare"..

She is old enough to be introduced to puppy meat or normal dog food if you really can't find puppy tinned food. Puppies can be weaned as early as 3-4 weeks if you really have to. Only feed a puppy milk not other milks, if you can find a pet shop or a vets they should have puppy powdered milk that you can reconstitute. Scrambled egg can be used but really dog food is the best thing to get the pup to try and eat.

The problem with chicken and rice is there really is very little nutrients except protein. Dry food soaked is also something that can be fed however some pups don't take to well to this straight away so tinned food (puppy ideally) is easier to wean them onto for a couple of days then start the dry food. If pup is still strong enough and hungry this may not be an issue and soaked dry food can be tried straight away.

THe best tinned food if you can get it would be from a vets for 'senesitve stomachs' very bland but with all the vits and mins the pup will need aswell.

I second all of the above. I wouldn't be able to give this gorgeous little back. What a cutie! Good luck.

Thanks for your thoughts.

With a move out to China still a possability the wife has advised me that if we take our two cats over they wouldn't stand much of a chance unless we kept them housebound, which I wouldn't want to do anyway.
I think I'd cry all day long if I lived in China, I don't think I could bear to witness their treatment of animals first hand. Nor would I likely not interfere and hurt someone, so I'd be off to jail....

I pulled my dog out of a bag, out of a river after some gypos decided to drown 5 of them-4 dead, annie very much alive.
She had a couple of weeks on rice, boiled chicken and the occasional minced lamb meal- as advised by the vet as we didn't know what/when she was last fed.
Make sure you dot him/her on some paper every half hour or so- they soon pick up where to go to the loo.
I wouldn't give it too much milk though- if it's older than you think it's a sure way to create 'bum gravy'-mix it 50/50 with water, then reduce the milk content overthr next coulpe of weeks.
'mother' the dog as much as you can- you will have a terrific companion.
Also, make sure it gets time to play- they learn agrest deal about pack pecking order through playing- ie, you are in charge.

Aww, can anybody tell what breed he/she is?
Here's something that may help if you're considering briging your little friend back http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/ but I'm guessing he/she is likely to be too young
