Hi all, your help and advice appreciated. Vixen S3 detachable bonnet, I'm looking for a good quality multipin connector probably 8 pole. I have seen some which are flimsy and cheap, but a good secure connection will be important. Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

Dave.

Also www.carbuildersolutions.co.uk - see weatherproof multi-plug. (Could be a vehicle-wiring products component)

I used two trailer sockets, mounted on the top radiator brackets. Easily accessible/unpluggable, weatherproof, durable and cheap.

I use SureSeal connectors which have quite a high current rating (about 10A per pin I think), hermetically sealed (unlike trailer sockets!) and very compact (also unlike trailer sockets) with various configurations from 2-pin upwards. I got mine from Farnell but I expect other places sell them too. The only disadvantage I can see with these connectors is that you really need the right tool to push the terminals in and out of the housing, which bumps the initial cost up.

It's worth pointing out that if you run the earths through this connector, that you should run several earth connector (preferrably one for each device) as it is unlikely that an individual core of the connector will be man enough for some of the high currents drawn. Either that or retain a seperate earth strap between the car chassis and bonnet frame.

two 100w main beam halogen lights will draw 8.5 amps each, now you could have the hazard lights on as well (or in the case of a Taimar/3000S the fan) and you can easily be drawing over 20A
