oil canning sound in cabin

notice some times when driving for a while an oil canning sound come from underneath me. i assume its something warming up and expanding. is this common>?

Do you mean a sound like sheet metal changing position (for want of a better description)?

I've had that for a while - I think it may be be the fuel tank, sometimes I get it on start up (but very rarely) when the fuel pump kicks in (sucking the volume smaller?) and at other pretty random times. The only consistent thing I can think is that it may be the fuel tank as it doesn't matter if I'm moving or not, cornering or not, even engine switched on or not. Starting to worry a bit now, should it do this (if it is this) and could it cause a problem?

can of wd40 behind the drivers seat had me going for a while (rolling back and forth and clanging on the rails).

Is it a "thung" like noise? Its definately the fuel tank expanding, mine does it as well. In fact there is a nother topic on this, and quite a few Tuscans do it.. Would not worry too much though..

Wouldn't that sort of noise suggest that the tank isn't breathing properly? May be worth checking out the breather line.

I was under the impression that the tank should be under slight negative pressure? When filling it up there's a definite sucking-in of air when releasing the filler cap. Not sure how the breather line would work as it would stop that?

yes this is the same problem, i think it is the fuel tank as well.

Cant see it being a major problem, just wanted to know if it was common. thanx for feedback.

Same problem with mine, seems to do it when I turn the engine off.
