An interesting conversation with Ian of Sportmotive yesterday has got me thinking about the idea of having a body coloured painted dash instead of the wood laminate.
I've never been a fan of the turned dash look, or carbon fibre, because its too 'new' looking for the interior of my car. But a body coloured dash is quite an old concept so maybe it would work.
Since the veneered dash needs replacing I'm toying with the idea but can't find anything in the searches. Has anyone ever done this? Got pictures?

but you probably wouldn't get the desired result 
The photo's don't really do it justice, but here is the one we did at Sportmotive.
It is an SE dash, but you get the drift.
We were really pleased with the outcome, the dash is body coloured.
There was quite a bit of work in this one, as I had to swap the heater controls over and replace the LED's.
I think it looks better with darker body colours and darker dash surrounds.

That was my Griff SE with the painted dash. It was an idea I had running around in my head and when the laminate came away from veneer dash I got the chance to try it out.
Ian at Sportmotive carried out the work when he was fitting the vented bonnet and doing some bodywork so the paint was ready to go.
I think as it was the first time it is safe to say it was a bit more difficult than we all hoped/thought but Ian did a superb job and in my opinion it looked spot on, like a 50's Maserati.
Colour would be an issue - darker or subtle colours work well but some of the brighter shades may look a bit shouty?
I have some photos somewhere if you need any more information.

If you want high quality finish door cards to match your dash contact SC Power, they supply them paint primed.
Wouldn't fancy that - the number of times I've been driving the Griff in hot weather, like at Le Mans, in a T-shirt and thought how much more pleasant it is with my arm up against the carpeted door rather than sweaty leather, a painted surface would be even worse. IMO...An update with another painted dash as food for thought for someone possibly.
After all sorts of issues with a new dash / knackered old dash and needing the Griff for Johnos wedding, I tried to create a brush finish dash and it looked a real pigs ear.
So I decided I'd have a go at painting it.
Apart from the colour being about 5 shades lighter than it said on the tin, I think I quite like the effect.

I'll have the car out today Davep so I'll get you a shot of the dash over the drivers door with the window down. I think that will show what you're after.
Any pre-cat can have polished bezels, the black is only paint and can be taken off - admittedly with a huge dose of elbow grease but it can be done.

gives the dash a lift, but retains the classic look of a British sports car..... Reminds me of an old MG dash
