Shifting problems

Hi,

Got a deore front mech here with a deore shifter. Recently it's been shifting poorly so I replaced the cable and lubed the cable outers today. Shifts a lot better now when on a workstand.

However the shifting is fairly poor when riding the bike and under load with a shift taking a while to eventually happen (whereas on the workstand the shift is pretty much instant). Anyone got any idea what might be causing this?

Try changing gear downhill at speed, freewheeling.

What do you mean by poor? Is it not going up? Is it not going down? Is it rubbing?

Try holding the lever in the shift position for longer, until you can 'feel' that it has satisfactorily moved cogs.

Both not going up and down. I tried tuning it a bit quickly tonight and have just buggered it up even more, so i'll attempt it all from scratch again tomorrow.

Sounds like worn chainrings holding onto the chain under load.

OP - Apologies for a thread hijack but I'm having problems with my front LX shifter. It just won't shift into the largest ring. The lever doesn't 'click' into place and just moves back to its previous position. Anyone got any thoughts on why this might be ? The cables etc all seem OK

Does the chain actually shift up into the largest ring and then back again or does it not quite make it all the way?

Agree with the view that the rings may be worn - do they still look new (with a flat top to them) or more pointy?
