Spotted: 5 series GT. And it looked.... er quite good tbh!!

So, another trip to Germany for work & another multiple-hour schlep across the autobahns for the next days shoot. Livened up by the sight of a curiously large but rather smart looking hatch passing us... the rear lights looked ace and the overall packaged seemed to just 'work' somehow. It was the as-yet-unreleased 5 series GT, no doubt out for a bout of last minute data gathering; I suppose the car has been so well covered in the press they just dont bother with camouflage at this stage in a cars development (ie eveybody knows what it looks like anyway!). Still, I'm happy to report than (imho of course) it looked pretty smart for a large hatchback. Note the caveat; its not beautiful in the Aston Rapide sense, but compared to a Panamera this thing is Sienna Miller. No pics sadly, by the time I grabbed my camera out of the footwell it was long gone......
I just managed to spec up a 550i GT to £75k - more than my M5 cost. The options list goes on forever. It's nearly as bad as Porsche.
ETA: even at current new prices and adding full leather and a few individual options, I can only get an M5 to about £4k more than a 550GT.

Ignoring the price for a moment, I had a good play with the one at Goodwood FoS. The looks aren't as elegant as the E60 saloon or Touring, and surely the (not very) clever rear seat could have been applied just as well to the Touring to give it more space.
The boot arrangement is just like the Skoda Superb; I can understand a Skoda needing some sort of unique proposition to stand out, but why on a BMW?
