Have I done some damage?
Discussion
I was filling up wth fuel yesterday and got distracted by a very nice Tvr T350 pulling into the garage. As a result I managed to put 370cl of diesel in my G33. I realised and then filled the tank, all 10 gallons of it with BP Ultimate the car's usual tipple.
I have driven the car about 100 miles since and used half a tank of fuel and it seems to go fine temperature stable, no noticeable smoke an dthe usual pops and crackles on over run, but I wondered if I could have caused any lasting damage.
The engine is a 3.9l Rover V8 running a TVR catalytic coverter map. I have no cats but have retained the lambdas. The engine is what I would call a moderate tune for the RV8 putting out about 225 bhp.
Thanks in advance
Nick

A lot will depend on the actual amount of diesel you put in.
but keep a very very close eye on your oil level. The diesel tends to find its way into the sump, and dilutes the oil.
The oil level will rise, and you'll soon start burning oil too, and risking other damage.
When you're sure its full of petrol again, change your oil.

Spot on,i have witnessed the sump oil level raising issue myself on a customers car
i tried to tell him that the tank needed draining,in the end the motor stopped anyway
anymore than a litre is going to cause headaches no matter how much you have filled the tank but a squirt i would not worry about.Edited by Simon Says on Tuesday 18th August 21:01
