Is it odd to prefer Estates?

Am I the only one with preference for the estate versions of big barges? Or do I just have a problem?

Strongly dislike the salon version of this.

And any Volvo is definitely better in Estate format!

No, not particularly odd - I generally prefer estates to saloons. In fact off the top of my head, I can't think of any examples where I prefer a saloon to its estate counterpart.

I don't get saloons. Estates are great (learnt to drive in a Volvo 240 Estate ).

I want a Octavia VRS estate, have no desire to own a 4 door, so I'm with you estates are awesome. And that's before we even consider Audi RS Avants.

There was a poll relatively recently that asked the same thing..the conclusion was, IIRC, that you are certainly not alone. Far from it.

Personally, am not a fan of saloon car looks at all.

ETA fking hell, the one subject to get people talking estate vs saloon, who'd ha think it?!

I'd love something like an Alfa 156 GTA estate, Volvo v70 t-5, or such like but they'd just be too big for me at the moment. I only usually have me in the car so anything bigger than a hatch/coupe is wasted

I think a lot of it depends on the styling of the car; I like the look of purpose that many estates have (Legnum, Legacy, 9-5, A6, 5 series, Accord etc) and especailly in uber-power guise, I would have a RS6 Avant or M5 Touring over the saloon. However some car makers simply graft a bit of greenhouse onto the back of their most popular saloon and expect it to compete without giving it much thought (I'm looking at you, Nissan Primera).

Bizarrely, only cars with RWD or 4WD look good as estate for some reason.

The S-class Estate on the Sultan of Brunei thread the other day would be what I spent a Lotto win upon.
