Writing a CV for a bar job
Discussion
Hopefully the friendly neighbourhood mods will leave this be seeing as how no one frequents the employment matters section.
Just looking for some general advice on this really. A bar near me in Manchester is re-opening and had a sign up saying recruiting, call this number. So I phoned up and the lady said to drop my CV in to the people renovating it and they might sort out an open day because they've had so much interest.
Now I've done a few months bar work when I was 18 (24 now) and currently work for a outsourcing company in an Investment administration role but recently moved to the city centre and could do with some pocket money as well as the social side of it.
So how in the hell do I sort a CV out for a bar job?

When adapating my Cv for jobs that I may not have undertaken directly or recently, I try to make a list of what the employer is looking for..
A bar job for me would entail looking for someone reliable, trustworthy, honest, customer focused and numerate. Good dealing with the public and friendly would be important..I would think a lot of students and single mums would apply for this type of job. So try and add stuff to the CV that would look better than them..
Now you look at your work and personnel life and adapt your skills to that..For example..I am highly numnerate and can mutiply figures in my head with ease and have a good short term memory. ''In my current role part of my job is dealing with accounting adding figuresup quickly is precisly is essential..''
As this is a customer facing/focused role, highlight any customer service skills you have, be that on the phone or face to face..Also maybe stick a bit about meeting sales targets as a whole is important..
Maybe too indepth for a job like this, but better to oversell than undersell..Also if in doubt just Bull s
t..
I would also say in these times and current climate you should follow up the CV with a call and get some rapport built up so they can put a name/voice to the CV before they have even looked at it..
Sorry I woudl also say a new start op, will be looking for experienced and unexperienced staff more than an existing op..
