No seriously....!!!

What's a good CD based French language course that I can just slot into the CD player in the car and listen to?

We're looking to buy somewhere there in the not too distant future and then eventually move.

I'm not a complete beginner (proudly displays 'O'-Level certicicate from about 30 years ago) but I'm not too far off being that...

Thanks for any suggestions.

So when I enter..I mean "entre!"..a cafe and say:

"Deux Merde, SVP!"

we'll soon be drinking a couple of nice cafe au lait toute suite?

I've been learning Italian with the Pimsleur CDs in the car.
I have nothing to compare against, but it seems OK.

I'd agree with this. After the first lesson I was amazed how much I'd learnt (or re-learnt).

As for learning in the car, this was my original idea but it just didn't work for me. As soon as I came to a roundabout or someone changed lanes ahead of me etc, I realised I'd missed the last 30 seconds and no longer knew what they were talking about. But then again I can only do literally one thing at a time, it's kind of useful in my job.

Michel Thomas.

I used his German one for brushing up my high school German and then his dutch for beginners. Both are excellent.

Another vote for Michel Thomas, very good smile

I wouldn't bother with a night school at college, they're useless and the "teachers" rarely know french themselves.

I've got this one but haven't used it much. I'm going to France in a fortnight, how much can I realistically be expected to pick up in that time?

Sorry for the thread hijack!

got the michel thomas and pimsleur ones on my phone and listen to them every now and again, they are very good.

The michel thomas is amazingly easy to pickup and very quick to learn due to the way its taught and its all about explaining the english associations with the words and picking it up that way.
