Considering a barely used 335 but have some questions...

Others will know more than me, but aren't the diagnostic gizmos you need v expensive? Servicing needn't be that much of a cost. Might you not spend more overall if you bought a 6 month old car and one day service it yourself say, rather than an 18 month old car and have the dealer do it?
Love tha auto myself. Try them both is prob best. SMG is less common though, I believe.

I'm no expert but I haven't heard of many folk doing this - they're both pretty complex beasts and imho you would be best to leave it to a pro !anonymous said:

I think the 335D is auto only so if you want a manual it'll need to be the 335ianonymous said:

There is tons of info on here already if you can be bothered to have a dig around or use the search function. Happy hunting

I was looking at late 330i's and 330d's in March/April, i ended up getting a 335d and really very happy with the car, only thing that let it down, in my opinion, when i first got it was the complexity of the iDrive (my first BMW). However after a couple of weeks you start to get to grips with it and then youre away, or you get your 14 year old to come everywhere with you
Ive also updated the Nav disc too, to a 09 version that now gives me the capability of 7 digit post code entries. Apart from that its a superb car and very pleased with it, so far!I get a genuine average of 38mpg from my 335d Touring, which has been over 10k miles of mixed motorway and around town driving. I don't have a light right foot...
In practical terms, this means I get 500 miles from a £60 fill-up, so it's very pleasant not to visit the petrol station on every major journey. It also minimises the exposure of hands and shoes to bl**dy diesel, which can only be a good thing
The car is an Efficient Dynamics model from late 2007, and spent the first 4 months of its life being thoroughly loosened up as a dealer demo. It's got the old iDrive, which I don't have a problem with, but I had pretty much the same system on a 130i beforehand so I've had plenty of acclimatisation.

We dont do mahoosive miles as we only use it for long runs out to the relatives or nice days, so its not our daily driver, as you see we get quite good mpg from it, on a motorway run your looking at 38-40, on the twisty bits 34-36 and around town about 34, so not too bad, last car was a Golf PD GTi 150, that was awesome on the mpg around 55 on the motorways. Obviously the 335d is less, however totally different engine and amazingly different to the last car.Not sure what you mean about the new iDrive unit!!! Mine has the rotary knob which can be pressed and the menu button alongside it, probably the old one as it is a '56 reg car. Insurance was amazingly cheap too after paying 420ish for the Golf, this came in at 285 with the same company.
335d - Averaging around 36 mpg which is mostly stop-start out of town, then twisty B roads to the office and back so not the best for fuel consumption. On longer motorway runs I'll get up to 40-41 depending on traffic. I once averaged 46 stuck behind a Miss Daisy but that was hardly typical driving!
Mine's a 2008 Efficient Dynamics model.
No manual option on the 335d but flappy paddles in Sport Mode is quite fun IMO

Hi there,
i've had both petrol and diesel models, but have not had either for more than 6-8000 miles. Therefore not really loosened up.
335d (current car) is averaging 35mpg with 4k on it. Lots of high speed but constant motorway speeds and a good deal of hooning about elsewhere. I think this could get closer to high 30's without too much trouble.
335i was getting 25-27mpg. I've had manual (least favourite due to mileage) auto and DCT. DCT is great and an excellent compromise. Auto mode works well and the changes as super fast.
Both are superb. I prefer the noise of the petrol but diesel torque is amazing and better between fill ups. Comfortable 400-450 for diesel but no more than 300 for petrol.
Like you, love the twin pipes!

Had the 335i once and the 535d twice!
If I had a choice? And mileage wasn't an issue?
335i every time....and I really do rate the 35d engine specially DMS'd which again I've had, but in all honesty if you've had neither....335i
The 335i will tick all the boxes and provide a lovely engine note...
ps....mine was manual and I preferred it!!
