Maybe a little too late, but if you're wondering as to which pass(es) to do then I'd reccomend watching the Tour de France as the aerial footage is superb. Today the tour went from Martigny to Bourg St-Maurice via the Col du Grand St-Bernard and Col du Petit St-Bernard. I'll be "doing" the Grand in a year or two but I "done" the Petit last year but TBH didn't remember half what was shown on teh TV so I'll just have to go back again........

i just came back from the alps and did Furka, Grimsel, San Bernadito (sp?) and stelvio, i would recommend the grimsel furka route to anyone as this was awesome, san bernadito was great fun and very empty and stelvio was spectacularly boring unless you like hairpins in which case there are something near 100 i would guess.

This is a hidden gem, the Col De Nivolet, just inside the Italian border above the village of Ceresole Reale (near Val-d'lsere). The road doesn't go anywhere but that means you don't get the through traffic. Avoid at the weekends especially Sunday's as its a favourite with the locals.

Its also famous for another reason, a certain movie coach full of gold was hung over the cliff edge at the top of the pass... "Hang on a minute lads i've got a great idea, err?"

Sorry for the large image.
