Hi All,

I am involved in trying to raise funds and supplies for a wonderfull charity that is building a hospital in Haiti. Already they have supplied an ambulance, built a new ward and are now building a maternity unit. This is essential and is both badly needed n the area and laughably cheap to build and run compared to anywhere in the developed world. The charity needs some PC's to ship over, preferably with flat screens to save on shipping costs but really anything would be appreciated.

I would like to try and get hold of as many as I can, ideally 25 or more, but even one would be gratefully accepted. Old PC's or laptops would be so much help so if anyone could assist with even just one it would make a huge impact and I would be most grateful. Obviously the newer the batter but anything would be fantastic.

Please feel free to check out the charity - www.haitihospitalapeal.org

Anyone?!

Thanks in advance.

PL

I've got a load at work that could be liberated - no flat screens, but the base units are "ok" for XP, Web and Office.

Actually, they're not, they're slow as fk, but still, might be useful to you?

It might be worth your while approaching local businesses tbh. What with weee regulations and that now it actually cost organisations to dispose of old computer equipment.

You might well be saving them money. Plus you can blind them sweeten the deal with the benefits of corporate social responsibility blah blah blah.

Yup, that is my next port of call but frankly, based on having posted this such a short time ago it appears that PH'ers will be of immense help. Its a wonderful cause and while I know that it helps people get rid of old machines that are just sitting about I very much appreciate the generosity of PH members.

I'll tell you tomorrow. I know they only have 1/2 GB memory though. Plenty of diskspace, adequate CPUs and CD ROMs.

Oh, and Edinburgh - 8 of em.

FG - I have no idea if they have any ability to get them from there but I'll find out. I live in London so I can't but if the machines are needed then I am sure we can find someone who is coming from there to here who ight be able to bring them.

Let me get back to you on Wednesday or more lkely Thursday. Hopefully they can do something with them but either way, I appreciate your very generous offer and I am sure the chaps from the charity will be really thankful.

Already had a wonderful response from PH - offers of at least 18 machines in the space of an hour is just fantastic.

Many thanks and if anyone else has any more, please do keep them coming.

We are also oranising a 10k run in London on September the 5th so if anyone feels like running or would like to sponsor a PH'er who is running (already raised over £500 - what a total star!) then I would be delighted to send details. I kno it's cheeky to pitch for runners / sponsorship but I am sure people will forgive me that in the light of the cause.

Thanks again.
