Guys and Gals (Yes, this is probably in the wrong place on the forum!)

I'm looking at going over to the state in September for about a fortnight. I've just done a couple of quick searches for car hire prices and they vary (from the hertz at quite expensive - ie: more than my flights cost!) to Alamo which is less than half for the one up from economy style car that I'd looked at.

Does anyone have any recommendation for car hire they've used before over there? I used Hertz last time I went, but got a deal on that and my flight, which I haven't looked at yet, I admit.

Just looking for some PH wisdom and horror stories first.

Thank

I have used Alamo both direct and through a broker (holiday autos I think) I had a blow out in one ant they swapped the car and paid for the replacement tyre I put on the car as I did not fancy 200 miles on a space saver. They are useful if not expensive for one way drops as they have many locations.
Some good prices can be got from local hire firms depending on your location.

I went in December and found Hertz to be the cheapest for me. The secret is to join their #1 club beforehand (free) and then you get better pricing through the website.

I always find Avis the cheapest, when doing a quote make sure you select that you are form the Uk as for some reason some care are half the price then if you were a domestic renter

Dollar are ok!
Use the UK site rather than the US site to book your rental.

I've used carhireagency.com a couple of times and have always been competitive.
