What do you guys think of this then? I mean the 2002 version. I have to say I haven't seen any of the earlier versions but I thought this film was top notch. I really recommend it if you like a bit of sci-fi

Its thinking person's sci fi, like Kubrick's 2001, Moon just out, and Danny Boyle's Sunshine. Dealing with isolation, loss, the nature of god, and such cerebral like things.

And like Sunshine (John Murphy & Underworld), Solaris has really good modern atmospheric soundtrack (Clint Mansell). But its not for everyone who enjoys aliens and blasting things, and as such some might describe it as slow and boring.

I liked it though.

I was left wanting when I watched this. I found the original 1950s Forbidden Planet more intellectually stimulating than this I'm afraid.

I liked it but the book is better (isn't that nearly always the case).

Really like it, great film, probably one of my favourites smile

Certainly takes a deliberate pace, it helps build the tone for the story - its not about 'sci-fi'.

Solaris's rather wonderful score is actually by Cliff Martinez, one of my all time favourite scores smile

Clint Mansell did Pi, Requiem for a Dream, etc...

Cheers.

I do love this film - especially the significance of the cut at the kitchen sink at the end. Akin to Wintermute's proposition in the "beach scene" in Neuromancer.

But, the original Russian film is supposed to be better. It's on Film4 late tonight, so we shall see...

I haven't seen the remake but the original is one of my favorite films, stunning cinematography.
