A guy I have worked with for the last year and a half was killed last night in a car accident. I dont know any details but I think it was near Amersham.

Take it easy on the roads.

Another 2 people were killed on the A13 in Essex this afternoon. Two others were killed on Saturday night.

4 deaths on one road in 4 days

Please be careful out there.

Put up some cameras that catch people speeding and fine them £30 + 3 points, that will sort it out

There seems to be little regard for the current lethal icy conditions I'm afraid to say. I've been hearing near misses & slithers all morning, the usual's who charge down our residential road got a rather rude awakening. It's visible icy conditions up our road before the roundabout, yet they still do the same 50mph up to it.

I was going to take the video camera down to watch.

Unfortunately I somehow doubt it's them that'll get hurt & the council will get the blame too.

On my journey to and from work I use the Four Sisters junction of the A12 at East Bergholt in Essex. This practically a T junction (hardly any slip road when you join the A12) onto a dual carriageway. The road also curves so visibility is reduced and is not helped by people driving at 90 mph plus. It is a well known local blackspot.

In the last two years there have been numerous prangs and at least one fatal. Last week the road was closed for 90 minutes while someone was cut out of their car. This is a prime site for a speed camera - but I have never seen a mobile police patrol let alone a fixed camera. So much for gov policy for using cameras to reduce deaths and accidents.

Surely fixing the road would be a better bet than keeping the road in a low quality state and putting a speed camera on it ?

How about complaining to the local council about putting in a better road junction ?

And incidentally, don't blame folks for doing 90 mph on the dual carraigeway - it's the folks that are joining the dual carriageway from the minor road that have to blend in, not the other way around.

In my book if I drive/ride faster than I should I hold full responsibilty for other drivers not being able to account for my actions. At 90mph I am expecting others not to see me, not to expect me driving that fast, I am expecting to have to nail brakes or take evasive action at the every junction. If someone pulls out on me whilst at excessive speed then it's quite probably MY FAULT.

Perhaps a better solution would be to reduce the carriageway to a single line past the junction?

Exactly the right direction IMHO, engineer a permanent solution is the only way to go. Quick fixes such as reduced limits and or cameras etc are exactly that quick fixes and not a permanent solution IMHO.

How many cars can do 0-60 in about 3 seconds then. There is only about 20ft of slip road on this junction as you join just before an overbridge.

Yeah, but you give it your best shot don't you? Well, I'd hope all on here do. Some folk just meander up to the merge point with indicator blinking and just pull out. They've no idea. Sad really.

I drive a car every day and in the summer I ride a big bike. The difference in my attitude between the two is marked. If I cock it up in the car I will most likely survive even a big accident. If I make a tiny misjudgement on my bike at speed - I will probably die.

I echo the earlier comment. Other road users are entitled to assume that I am driving/riding within the limit - and why shouldn't they? I detest the use of cameras and the withdrawal of Trafpol from the roads but I also understand the responsibility I carry if I choose to speed.
