Hello I require some advice on a possible career change.
Currently work in IT and the market is getting smaller (never been that large in my area) with offshoring etc and have the opportunity of VR.
I don't really enjoy the work I do as I am not that interested in it and I have been thinking of other careers but the only thing that interests me is cars.
I noticed an advert in the local paper for a position at a local main dealer (small not Evans Halshaw type) and it basically states no sales experience is necessary.
My question is what are the chances of someone who is late thirties with no sales experience getting into this and chances of success?
What is the normal base type salary for this type of position and how long would it be before you start seeing the results of sales in the wage packet i.e. how long til you are making your own commission I am guessing?
My previous work experience would stand me in good stead for the other attributes required for the role according to the advert but without sales experience I am looking for advice\pearls of wisdom please.

Thanks in advance

Basic could be anywhere from £5000 per year (car supermarket type place) through to £20k+ I guess.. Although that is quite high.

Normal is going to be between 10-16k.

I would say that its the best part of 6 months till you start earning, I have just over a year in the trade now having started as a trainee, and am now earning a decent amount. However I do not like my job, so have left (if you are in Surrey there may be a job going? ) the hours are st, work every saturday and often sundays on a rota. The politics and hoops that you have to jump through to earn good money in the larger groups are not fun.

But I would imagine a small dealer would be good fun, I think I left really as I don't actually like the public that much.

Still, its a pretty easy way to earn good money!

And for the record, I have an interest in cars, but am regularly outsold by a girl that doesn't have a fking clue, because she is more bubbly and has a decent set of tits and a nice arse I would guess, so don't think that the interest in car will make much odds. eventually you are just selling an object, you forget its a car!

If you work hard you should do well, I've met so many car sales people who couldn't be arsed to talk to me, ring me back or try and sell me anything.
