Harmon Kardon Problems.

Have a 328 ci with the upgraded Harmon Kardon sound system which consists of 8 speakers + a sub.
The problem is, the sound keeps cutting out & does not come back on until you restart the engine after leaving it for approx atleast 15mins. It will cut out regardless of what is on I:E radio, cd, tv or sat nav! Sometimes depending on how loud i have it, i can here hissing coming through the speakers & nothing more. I am convinced that all connections to speakers are fine but cannot gain access to the built in monitor to see whether or not something has come lose at the back. Any ideas what could be doing this & any suggestions on how to sort it please? Many thanks.

A shorting speaker wire will do this, a speaker with a burnt/ burning voice coil also, as will internal problems with the amp eg thermal shut down .

Am hopefully checking the connections tonight. I just found out that the radio is also in the boot rather than in the front where you would normally expect to find it.

Well after pretty much checking everything & finding nothing lose or broken, i am now completely lost as to why my sound still cuts out constantly! Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction of somebody in Hampshire you can possibly help me get this sorted because its driving me mad now. Many thanks.

I think Google will be your friend as where to find your local car hi-fi specialist with regard to this one. I'm fairly sure that if you booked in with them they'll be able to locate your problem.

Have tried a search on google & not found anyone close to me.

Well i have rang several places thismorning & nobody wants to take on the work. They all pretty much say the same thing I:E fault finding is very difficult & could take a number of hours & still not find the fault. I am now looking around for anyone local to me with the same set up who will hopefully let me borrow there amp for a minuite or two to see if that works. Atleast if it still doesnt work, i can eliminate the amp. Just one other thing, is the amp that tiny box which is attached to the 2 speakers under the parcel shelf?
