I'm thinking of signing up for a trip to France and a trackday at Clermont Ferrand in October. Has anyone on here done a trackday there?

Is anyone on here going?

It's an outfit called Drive Espana who I came across on a bit of a surf

Tour is here www.driveespana.com/itineraries

Looks like they usually do Spain but this looks interesting

I'm pulling this together. Clermont Ferrand uses a system of aggregating noise levels, so when the amount of noise over a certain time gets too high they stop the session. We've got an afternoon with only about half a dozen cars so I'm not overly bothered yet

Interesting: this is an approach similar to Zandvoort. Let us know how it went

Good luck

I did a track day organised by the circuit administrators themselves last Friday. The noise restriction is between two (fairly close) points, indicated by amber flashing signals. The limit between those two points is 65db. They just expect you to cruise through those points, as soon as you approach the second light, you can drop a gear and go for it again.

There was another BEC there who was warned for not backing off; the car promptly broke. My Fireblade engine is at the 96db limit but I had no problems just following their instructions. Noise is monitored all around the circuit but they are only concerned between the two points. It is the usual story of 4 owners of villas, constructed after the circuit opened, have complained and there is now a lot of politics about the issue.

My guess is that a road-going exhaust on a new 911 M3, Exige etc would probably be able to continue to drive quite hard through the section. There was a 1980 F3 car that did not have problems, just by following the instructions.

That said, it is a fabulous "handling" circuit, perhaps more suited to modern Lotuses etc.

I did a trackday there in 2007 and absolutely loved it, elevation changes, cambers and 'bottle' corners with big concrete walls on the exit!
(I would caution it's not for the faint hearted or novice.)

No problems with noise when we were there but it was a couple of years ago...
The weather was really foggy though so lost most of the morning - you really couldn't see more than 50 yards!

Worth exploring the public roads around about for the old circuit.

Surely, Bernie's place is Paul Ricard?

Unfortunately had to cancel - can't do a trackday with 4 cars!!

We'll try again in 2010 - perhaps people will want to give it a run then
