Drag racing launch tips for a novice.
Discussion
Im looking for tips or ideas on modifying my car and technique to improve my 60 foot times.
My car is a TVR Chimaera 450 weighng 1100kg or so including me.
Engine produces 237bhp @ wheels.
Progressive WON nitrous system jetted for 125 bhp
Best ET of 12.1 @ 118.
Standard suspension, IRS. The car sits a little low at the rear.
A John Eales 500 lb/ft clutch.
255/50/16 Mickey Thompson Street ETs onthe rear with 15psi.
I generally only do a mild burnout to clean the tyres off and warm a little.
I usually hit 60 foot in the 1.9s with a best of 1.84 but i think there is much room for improvement to hook up.
Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Just keep it real simple.Start with maybe just messing around with tyre pressures(rear) in small increments. Then when you get to the optimum of that move on to launch rpms.this will open another avenue of info because different pressures will work better or worse at differing rpms so just by two variables you could have a starting point for getting the ets down. That would be how i would start off with this type of car. You can then move on to shocks too then you have three variables to tune together and it starts getting difficult. The point i make is just keep it simple and do one thing at a time so that you have a better idea of what does and doesent work.
Thanks guys for the food for thought.
Keeping my foot in.... not a problem!
1/4 mile fever..... already got that.
Been aiming for an 11 for 12 months now.
The cars been capable for a while, just needs some fine tuning.
I will have plenty of power at York next week, just need a little more traction.
1. Tyre pressures down to 11psi
2. Raise the rear suspension to reduce the camber.
3. If i have time, make up tie cables to reduce front suspension travel.
4. More nitrous!

A new PB!
After running 3 low 12's something strange happened in the final of the 'Hotrod Challenge' at York last meeting.
I was up against Ian Kerrs 1000bhp+ '41 Willys and i think he dragged me along somewhat as i ran 11.726 @ 122.55.
ie i knocked nearly 4 tenths off my PB.
Im still struggling for grip despite 10 psi and more of a burnout.
The Mickey Ts surface seems to be breaking up slightly now so maybe ive just got through the top layer?

Excellent new pb with a cracking terminal speed...more in there for sure. How about loosing/disconnecting the front ARB..that limits front end lift ans will help promote weight transfer to the rear.
What rpm do you shift at on the motor, shifting lower on the gas may be benificial.
Like everyone said concentrate on lowering your 60fts, as its a stick like mine they can be tough to launch consistantly. I have just started using my MSD 2-step. More consistant launches which also means you can start to "tune" your suspension/tires and have repeatable launch rpms and stop watching the tach and tree !
The rear suspension will play a major part in you hooking up...but thats another story.
