I would like to take a day out in Kent and ride some of the coast. Rather than ride from London, which involves miles of tedium getting out through the suburbs, I would like to take a train out to somewhere like Whitstable / Margate / Dover - then ride to another town for the return journey. Distance would ideally be 30 or 40 miles. Can anybody recommend 2 towns to ride between that will involve pleasant seaside, good ( not too main ) roads, a fish & chip shop? I will be on a road bike, so no off-road trails.

Doing my bit for Margate tourism, you could try this:

Train to Birchington, nice ride around the coast, train home again; stop for a cuppa as you ride past the end of my road if you want.
