As the place I was getting it from can't get it until monday, does anyone know of anywhere locally (or on the way to Milton Keynes) that stocks it. I need a litre of it.

Edit: I'm talking about the racing brake fluid.

Is it critical you get that exact oil?

Might be worth asking on the oil thread in GG whether if there is another of the same spec which is more freely available.

Why do you need only 1 litre?

No, doesn't have to be Castrol SRF, but it is supposed to be the best brake fluid available by a long way.

SRF is definitely one of the best. Is it for a trackcar? I use Motul RBF600 and that's been perfect and is a fair bit cheaper. I think you can get RBF660 now which would probably equal SRF.

As for somewhere local who may have SRF i'd try somewhere like jtechautomotive.co.uk in Caversham or any other race team/prep places. For Motul RBF600/660 this should be available from GSF/Halfords or somewhere similar (or i've got some spare if you're local to Shinfield and get desperate!)

Thanks very much for the advice. I'll see what I can do - I might plump for the more common and less expensive Motul fluid.

Speak to aqualung666 (jos) he dont rate SRf much, it has to be changed too often on a road car..
Can get many DOT4 that are rated to the same temp boiling point, we just filled his with millers racing fluid. But I have std dot 4 in my tuscan, and haven't boiled it yet.

If you actually read the specs on Motul RBF600 you might change your mind. That's what I've got for my car and it's got a higher boiling point than a hell of a lot of other fluids that actually publish their specs.

Not much help in where you can get any from though as I've been ordering all the motul crap that's in my car from opieoils.

Ok, thanks everyone.

I think the main reason Castrol SRF is so highly rated is it's wet boiling point of 275C. Thats about 60 degrees higher than any other fluid, which means once the fluid is a bit old and has absorbed some moisture, it will still be almost as good as most racing brake fluids when new.

However, seeing as it's so expensive and hard to get hold of, I may just plump for the Motul fluid instead.

I wouldn't bother with SRF personally for a road car, as has been said it doesn't last long (which is fine if you rebuild your race car every winter).

Out of question do you need it that high on the swift, are you getting them that hot?

I rarely had brake fade? engine fade but not brake fade?

Well mine is at the garage now being fiddled with and I reckon the combination of my screws in my head getting looser and telling me to brake less often, the DS2500 pads and the motul fluid and I think I'll be fine as it was only on the ring or the 4494 that I ever had brake fade wasn't even an issue at Spa.

Indeed they are. I use them with Shell Advance Brake Plus DOT 5.1 fluid in my car and I've not managed to boil the fluid yet, but then again, I do drive like Miss Daisy.

You do have to be careful which fluid you use tho as some do not mix with others and will coagulate and that's not a good thing so be warned.

Ok, thanks for all the responses and advice.

Picked up a litre and a half of Motul RBF 600 just now from Subaru4you.

I've found the DS2500s' to be great too. I had them fitted along with dot 4 fluid and braided lines. However when I had the car serviced last Sat I was informed there was not very much fluid left after 11k miles or so! Can't imagine how that happened whistlehehe

Mechanic stated that the braided lines can lead to the fluid burning off more easily like that.
