E46 gearbox and drivetrains
Discussion
I don't think you understand how complex your question is.
Theres a vast array of gearboxes for the E46
lets start with manuals
S5D - five speed manuals fitted to e46's before 2004, theres different types for different cars e.g
S5D 250G, the '250' means how much torque it can handle, this one was designed for the 2.5 6 cyl engines. then you have a S5D 320Z which is for 3.0 6 cyls
then you have different ones for diesels and the smalller engines etc.
then post facelift ones became known as GS6.
The autos were known as A5S for five speed and A6S then followed by their torque rating.
Then you have the SSG/SMG 325's and 330s even they had different gearboxes.
For me to tell you every single type of gearbox for the E46, i would be going sleep 1 in the morning.
So simple answer is every type of engine had its own designed gearbox! REMEMBER 'engine' not shape, 330 coupe will still have same gearbox as a 330 touring or saloon, even convertible
