For the last couple of weeks my printer here has been on its way out; middle of the page is faded or blank and the edges fine.. Have taken the toner cartridge out and shaken it around a few times then its fine for a while and back as it was.. Just wondering why on earth this happens. Feels like I'm about to throw out a cartridge with a lot of toner still in it, but its a pain to take it out and shake it.

If you look at most text pages there is a nice border of about 1-2cm around the side of the text, this means that the toner in the middle of the cartridge gets used first and then if you shake it evens out again for as little while.

Keep shaking it as it can't be that much of a pain to open the printer, shake twice and reinsert - even I'm not that lazy and I don't even cut my own nails!

Tighter than a ducks arse...

go and get a new toner cartridge - one downside to shaking them is "GETTING TONER OUT OF THE CARPET IS NIGH ON IMPOSSIBLE TRUST ME ON THIS!"

There is one way to make them last longer! OH

Get yourself a 40DD secretary and get her to shake the cartridge!

You'll never want another full one.

LOL, a cunning stunt we used to play with a well endowed Greek bird at the bank I worked at when I graduated.

Took her weeks to cotton on why nobody wanted to give her a new toner cart. This was nicely balanced with her remarks at how much you shook it being directly proprotionately to how long it lasted.

Akin to getting the office junior to water the plastic plants, only funnier.
Sheer class.

I'd buy another a laserprinter! When my last toner ran out it was something like £50+ for a new one but a secondhand laserjet iii+ (with new toner) only cost £30!

Of course.. Dumbo over here never thought of that..

I do like the secretary idea, but alas as its in my spare bedroom/office I'm not sure.. Then again..

Anyway, old one is on the way back to hp for recycling and the new one now installed.
