Hi,

Now I've been reading about the Greek Islands for the past few weeks I'm more confused than when I started. We decided Malta wasn't for us, so I'm now looking for a nice quiet resort for a weeks holiday in September.

I'm not too fussed if it's Apartments of a Hotel, but I would like a swimming pool and a beach not too far away. Nice local nature would be a huge plus too. I certainly don't want to end up on a clubby, commercial island.

Budget is around £1000 for the girlfriend and me, and we hope to travel for 7-10days. It's not going to get us a palace but we shouldn't be left with nothing but crap available to us. Looking to fly September 11th.

Any recommendations would be extremely welcome right now as I'm a bit lost.

Not been myself, mate, but wikitravel is very good;

And have a look at Netflights. They have a sale on worldwide flights in September so you may get further afield.

I went to Rhodes a couple of years ago and, apart from the hellhole that is Faliriki, really enjoyed it. Very cheap, nice people, great weather.

take a look at the post on kefalonia....from what you describe you are looking for, it's the ideal place. i'm somewhat biased as my family are from there! have a good search on the net for reviews for an unbiased opinion also...

Thanks Steve. I've read the kefalonia post and it's very high on the list, I was hoping for some other similar suggestions too.

It's probably going to come down to where in kefalonia though.

Skiathos and Skopelos. Rent a bike in Skopelos, it is very laid back.

These islands seem to be where people from Athens take their holidays.

Most Greek islands seem to epitomise what people really want from a beach holiday.

Good luck with your search

I liked Corfu, the North-East area is lovely, we stayed in a place called Nisakki.

Good site for info http://www.agni.gr/

Snap smile

Cyprus is a nice place too, providing you can get somewhere outside the major tourist bits. Crete is fairly nice also, stayed not far from Chania (with a silent 'C').

Kefalos in Kos is a great quiet part of the island. Some bars but no comercial, and loads of great restraunts.

I ended up booking Kefalonia smile

stevethegreek - Thanks for your advice but I've one more favour to ask. Do you speak Greek? I have a special diet which is quite restrictive so I'd like to write something up in the native tongue so I can hand them over at restaurants to avoid any confusion / mistakes.

Thanks
