Okay, I don’t know if this is something that’s specific to I.T. but has anyone else noticed the abundance of sales calls recently. They all seem to start with “How are you today” or “Could I ask you what projects you’re working on”, and they don’t give up easily usually demanding to come on site for a meeting.

Our reception thankfully filters some (they keep a log and I was shocked to see that some call up to 10 to 15 times a day!!) but most slip though the net by getting my details and calling pretending to be from a current supplier (i.e. claiming to be from Dell when in fact they’re a Dell reseller), or worse getting hold of my company mobile number.

Don’t they understand it; if I needed a new Supplier/ISP/Photocopier I wouldn’t sit by the phone and offer the contract to the first one who calls!

Does anyone else suffer these constant interruptions?

I feel sorry for the poor guys with the recession and all, but come on leave me alone!

Just a silly little lunchtime rant.

I dont get many but when i do i get them into a position where they are trying to undercut my current supplier, then tell them a price that is so unbelievbly low that they hang up.

At home i once told a credit card company that my bank paid me 1% interest on my credit card debt, they believed me...

I like the ones about my broadband services. They invariably start off by claiming they're from BT and then get around to "so what broadband service are you using at the moment?". They tend to get really shirty when I point out that if they really were from BT, they'd know.

Other than that, can't stand sales calls while I'm working. They interrupt the creative flow. Dratted nuisance. Mind you, when I'm really busy I'm not so keen on client calls either. hehe

I get these all the bloody time.

I've found the quickest way to deal with them is just by saying "Are you looking to provide a service?" then simply telling them it's company policy to only deal with them via email and give them the address.

Takes 4 seconds to delete the email as opposed to wasting 5 minutes.

Anyone had the American sounding guy on..... he's not selling anything, his company tells you what to invest in

"I have no money" I tell him

He replies "I'm not wanting to sell you something, just calling to offer our service's"

"OK.... I still have no money" ..... lol

Why don't you ask your company to sign up to the TPS?

Doesn't make any difference if the caller is overseas. Unfortunately.

"BT customer street", and their subsidary companies, have been calling me at least once a month for over 5 years. I know once a month doesn't sound like much but it's annoying when you have to stop what your doing (drilling, up a ladder etc) and tell them for the 100th time to FO. I've tried everything from polite requests to swearing abuse. The phone numbers TPS registered and I've had them start an arguement claiming a "mobile can't be TPS" I've also had them tell me because I've been abusive, they're not going to remove my number from the system and they're gonna keep calling me, which I'm pretty sure is an offence.

Their persistence is downright annoying. So much so in fact that I'll never use a BT product, ever again! I get calls from others but a polite "not interested thanks, please don't call again" ends it.

If anyone has any suggestions for the most vile, despicable and upsetting things I can say please forward them to me. If it can be posted on here it's probably not vile enough! How much trouble would I get in for repeatedly ringing their sales line and giving them some abuse, on the basis they have set the precedent of having the god given right to ring people and say what you like against their wishes?

Sales calls are part of my job at the moment. I usually tell them who I am, why I am calling and what I am offering with headline figures - generally my figures (telecoms) are much lower than they would expect which means that their interest is there.

I don't get pushy if they're not interested, just move on to the next. Every company in the country buys what I am selling so it's not too difficult.

Pah, I'll undercut whatever AB's offering by 10%.
