Has anyone done any real thinking about what might happen in the future if this proliferation of speed cameras, fines, disqualifications and general money raising activities continues unabated?

Let me give you a few ideas....

As the tolerance gets lower, and speed limits continue to drop, more and more people will get done...ordinary people whose car got up to 35 going downhill, or who accelerated to get out of the way of another vehicle etc...yes they're speeding...but read on...

As more people get done more often, more people will also get banned - and more people will lose their jobs because they need their licence. And with reduced public transport more people will be forced to drive illegally and take a chance.

This will lead to more people buying cars and not bothering to register or insure them...they're already banned, so why not...need I continue?

Don't get me wrong - persistent speeders and dangerous drivers MUST be stopped - genuinely dangerous roads must be targetted - we must take all precautions to try and remove accidents - but let's be sensible about it - please - for all our sakes.

And a Merry Christmas to all!

Because you still have some money left for them, to help there selfs to.

when there no cash left to grab thee remove em.

If they dont get burned to the ground first.

I can tell you this. I have been driving since 1959 and have always considered myself safe and my only accident was in 1973. Licence is clean, at present, as well. However, if I amass enough points, and it would be very easy to be just that bit over the limit 4 times in 3 years (indeed, it would be easy to be over 4 times in 3 days now!), I would not hesitate to continue to drive whilst banned. I live in a village with no public transport, I drive a lot of miles for my small business, and I will not sign on unemployed due to this speed camera obsession. I have too much self-respect to not want to work.
So,what would be the result of that. I would be most unlikely to be caught. If I was caught I would be charged with DwD. Imprisoned? - unlikely at 63 years old. A longer ban and a fine? - most likely, but I would probably ignore that as well and would get an Irish licence to confuse a bit.
Respect for the motoring laws is diminishing in direct proportion to the level of obsessional enforcement and this will just continue.
I would certainly never sign the NIP nor would I ever voluntarily confess. Neither would I tell my insurance company if I was found guilty of failing to disclose driver details.
It is making criminals of ordinary people.
