Just going through some snaps taken from the Thames last week and I can't remember what the significance of this building is. Does anyone recognise it? Thanks.

US embassy? Based on the flag. Haven't a clue tbh.

Shouldn't this be in holidays or photography too wink

That's Shell Mex House I think. Was there a big needle in front of it? (To the left, out of shot)

Pretty sure it's not the US embassy.

As to the other it should really be in the pics of buildings needing identification forum but remarkably there isn't one so I posted it here.... wink

ShellMex House. Still some Shell business in there but no longer Shell owned IIRC

Shell Centre itself is on the opposite side of the river

I seem to remember some useless fact about the clock being designed to be 1 inch bigger in diameter than the clock at the top of the tower where old big ben sits.

Mexico.

EFA

Bit of a cheesy thing to do & only 1 inch.

I suppose by doing it the 1 inch it'll prevent a clock faced inch race wars between designers/builders.

There is a lovely painting of `The Thames from Shell-Mex House` by Hilder. He did the illustrations for the Shell guides to the English Counties in the 50`s. Lots of smoke from the tugs & the trees turning colour. Sorry I can`t find a copy of it on the web!

they were great - they should have left them

good fun spotting them from being stood on the terrace as the hayward gallery, good exhibition too
