flat-nose?

Hi all,looking to buy a griff,some adds say flat-nose pre-cat is the body shape different on these models, all look the same to me.or am i blind ?

500 - common

The cars are pretty much identical except the engine is different, the exhaust is different, the wheels are different, the gearbox is different, the brakes are different, the dash is different, and of course the nose is different.

Apart from that they are identical

The reference to the 'flat nose' is more obvious from the side. The pre-cat has a very cut-off and flat look with just a small slit opening for the radiator which doesn't reach as far as the high beam lamps giving them an 'inset' look. The number plate is often above the small air intake for the radiator.

The 500 has a bigger 'mouth' which goes around the high beam lamps, making them appear tucked in to the corners. There is a bar across the middle of the opening and the number plate is often attached to this. From the side the 500 front has a pronounced point to it at the top edge as it reaches further forward than the bottom.

Then there are the 500 LE's which have other subtle differences too.

Ballistic Banana has a brilliant website which has plenty of photographs. From these you can work out the difference - at least visually - of the 3 different versions of MK2 Griffith (yes, there is an earlier 60's version just to confuse you things even more)

Another thumbs up for the pre cats! Having had both a 500 and now a pre cat, I can honestly say that they feel a bit more special....

I have a pre-cat with a 500 nose but no sign at all of the graft either in the paintwork or on the inside which is confusing.
