Headlamp Adjustment for Gen3 SRT/10
Discussion
Hi,
Has anyone got any advice please on tweaking a Gen3 headlight so that it passes UK SVA test..
Im not a mechanic myself, but my local mechanic trying to adjust the beam pattern says he is having a bit of a nightmare, has taken the assembly apart to see what he can do - and advice would be appreciated..
thanks guys

Im told they are not the same - and it doesnt appear to be that easy :-(
My mechanic says:
They are HID lights. If you look at the last pic (Mask only) you can see a small step along the top edge.
This is what allows the beam to step up on the near side. All I can do is machine the top edge flat, giving a flat beam then adjust the beam down. One small problem is the headlamps are self leveling,
so they keep raising themselves back up!
If anyone has any other suggestions they are appreciated.

The way the gen II lights work to convert is as dave says and I'll expand a bit as it is likely the gen 3 is similar (after all they were sold in the UK)
When you loosen the screws you only turn the light housing about 10 degrees and it is only the dip beam that moves. What this does is changes the US patten which is a horizontal line with a step and then a higher horizontal line. to a diagonal line with a step then another diagonal, it is slanted so that the RH side of the beam is lower and therefore doesn't dazzle.

Gen 2 lights are completely different to gen 3, gen 3 lights will pass an mot but for an SVA test they have to have washers fitted or you can remove the hid bulb and ballast converter box and fit a halogen bulb. Gen 3 headlamps do not dip left or right they just shine straight forward but this is acceptable. After the test just replace the hids. Remember to delete the orange marker lights and fit a white side lights. Clive.
Hi,
Can anyone please urgently suggest an appropriate halogen replacement for the HID system - a link to purchase perhaps please?
Do you suggest I need just a bulb to slot into the existing housing, or will I need the complete lamp assembly? If I need the whole thing can anyone lend me one please :-) cheeky
Also, does anyone know where the seatbelt approval logo / tag could be - It doesnt seem to be anywhere visible - at least not without removing all the trim / seat etc..
thanks guys, I look forward to becoming an active UK member!

there aren't that many of any viper and less srt's, out of those str's there are only about 4 active club members, and out of those 4 fewer still that actively post here, then there are some UK srt's the didn't need conversion, others that were converted when they brought it so I'm afraid there may not be much more help that hasn't passed by already.
Can you not disable the auto-level, take the housing down to halfords or a more helpful motor factors and try and find a non HID bulb that fits, and just adjust it accordingly.
Is there no way the mask or housing can be mounted to replicate what the GEN2 does with the slant, even if it involves a little modification. Gen 3s were sold in the uk so it must be possible to pass sva.

a very long shot is to try Prodrive in Banbury, as they produced the kit (some 70 odd parts) and installed some of the parts themselves to make a US spec SRT become a euro SRT
they even have a SRT on show at their Banbury factory

Thanks for your replies guys.. Will let you know how we get on - a job for tomorrow.
We havent done anything with the sidelight yet.
The only remaining problem is the Seatbelt stamp / approval - they failed it as they cant find one... We will have to take the trim / seat out and look at the spool, but we would have thought a label would have been easy to see/read and not hidden away.
