Right, thought it was about time I got a blog up on here. I've been slowly gathering parts to build a supercharged 16v engine over the course of the last 12 months. As it stands now i've got the rebuilt engine sat here waiting for a clutch buy to be completed so I can fit the it, drop the engine in and run it in through August. Hoping to have it all done for Rallyday in September. All I need to finish the build is the clutch, supercharger + oiling kit, loom and then mapping.

Supercharged spec:

VTS/Gti (J4) block rebuilt with new bearings by Sean
Wossner low comp pistons
JP4 head with VTS cams, springs, lifters and retainers
JP4 cam covers
Samco coolant hoses
Mocal oil cooler with thermostatic plate
RC engineering 440cc injectors
J4 inlet and TB
GMC 4-1 exhaust manifold
QEP lightened and balanced flywheel
Helix 6 paddle clutch + input shaft attachment
KMS ecu, ignition driver and wideband lambda
custom loom for ecu (ecu to be relocated behind dash)
GMC charger bracket
C30/94 Rotrex supercharger (planning to run around a bar of boost)
106 derv radiator, custom header tank
ebay special intercooler (210 x 65 x 590)

The current spec of the car is:

Engine:
Simota style enclosed air filter
Raceland 4-2-1 manifold
2" Pugsport group N exhaust
Group N engine mounts
Group N gear linkages
Griffiths Engineering quick shift

Suspension:
Bilstein Sprintline dampers
Rally Design Coilover conversion kit
Compbrake solid top mounts
6" 160lb Faulkner springs with 4" 40lb helpers
Rear beam lowered to match
OMP upper and lower strut braces
Polybush ARB mounts

Brakes:
306 S16 266mm calipers, DS2500 pads and Exact braided hoses

Wheels/tyres
S2 Rallye steels with Bridgestone cut slicks for track

Other:
Safety Devices 12 point "cup" cage
Sparco Evo seats
Sabelt 3" 4 point harnesses
Box section seat rails
Carbon doorcards + other covers
OMP Superturismo steering wheel
Odessey 680 dry cell battery mounted behind the passenger seat
Battery isolator switch
Aerocatch bonnet pins

Few pics:

I had to have a set of these after I saw Tommy and Lewis's, few months down the line and Lewis's are for sale, result! I'm planning on tarting up the engine bay before the 16v goes in so i'll have the plates welded on and then swap them onto the coilovers then.

Apologies for the random photos i've just trawled through my photobucket and picked some of the more interesting ones. Thanks for reading!

Slight update: Front offside suspension dead, thinking Gaz Gold coilovers as replacements, if it's good enough for the SAXMAX cars and stock hatch it should do me.

I'd be happy with anything over 200 at the wheels, anything over about 250 I think would just burn rubber, want to keep it usable (ish tongue out)

Costs would be good too, as I've a Blue 106 Rallye with the Power Steering on SORN I'd love to get tricked up for trackdays, hooning etc.

In terms of costs if you want to track prep the car you don't really need to do much to start with. It makes a great track toy from standard, DS2500 pads for the front and refreshing the bushes/ball joints will start you off, i'd also ditch the standard steering wheel straight away. If you do the work yourself that's going to be less than £300.

If you're wanting track focused i'd say the next step would be 266mm brakes from a 206/306 (will still fit under the steeelies), Bilstein shocks and maybe some slightly stiffer springs for the front. Raceland manifold and Pugsport exhaust will gain you a few bhp and improve the engine note no end, they're also much lighter than the standard system. That little lot will set you back around £700-800 new. Can be had for much less if you keep an eye on the forums.

Oh and the pics were "borrowed" from a thread on the Rallye Register tongue out I love Llandow, can't wait to go back once it's supercharged.

Yep, that French racing blue really sets it off. Not sure about the yellow wheels, tho - think white would be better. But it's your car, your choice.

Mini update: Took delivery of my clutch at last, so now i'm good to go. Just need to pick up a standard ecu, loom and injectors which i'm doing tomorrow to run the car in. I've booked a week off from the 17th, found a guy that can do my welding for me and got hold of a compressor to tart up the bay whilst the engine is out, can't wait!

Oh and I wasn't happy with the chavvyness of my intercooler so i've tried to tone it down a bit. Has turned out quite well I think!

I'm running a 106s/c, it's a roughly similar spec engine by the looks of things and made 199atw on Skip Browns dyno, I've seen other cars which claim more but they've never been any quicker so I guess it's just the usual variation in dyno figures.

Looking at your spec list I didn't notice a LSD, you'll be wasting your time trying to use it on the track without one even in the dry and if you do make around 200atw there's a good chance it will eat gearboxes anyway. I tried plate and ATB diffs in the MA boxes but managed to break them both in one season, in the end I did a BE4 conversion out of a 206GTi with a Quaife ATB in it but it's an expensive way to go frown.

On the up-side, it's a quick little car, stays with most Evos etc (not the mega modded stuff obviously!) on the straights and handles well on the corners. I'm not using it so much now as I've also got a Westfield which I've been having a lot of fun with this year but this is us at Anglesey last month when I lent it to a mate for the day -
