My brother has just started his 2003 Z4 3.0 to find the steering has no power assistance. He turned the car off and on and now there are three warning lights on the dashboard - power steering , abs and a bulb failure - any ideas what to do?

Does it have proper hydraulic steering or that new fangled electric power steering?

I believe they are all electric power assisted.

I suspect the bulb warning light means a bulb is blown (!) and when I had the abs light (and brake light) a sensor had failed. I'd suggest getting it to a stealer for diagnostics. Don't know if there's a separate fuse for the power steering but worth checking first.

Possibly unrelated but check the battery health indicator on the battery in the boot.

Seems strange for all those things to fail together.

Multiple failures often indicate an ECU failure - in my case, I had multiple warning lights, reduced power and no power steering initially when the DME module failure.
