Hi guys long time no see. my buddy called me today and said " ive just bought a mini" which i replied "excellent whats it like" well he said, the colour of the paint is ok.......

basicaly he bidded on ebay for it and it looked great on the pics with no mension of rust and won it for £900, to his suprise they came to birmingham from lancashire in the mini with in a few hours, "bonus" he said to himself. when they arrived he realised it wasnt as good as he though but shouldnt be to much to repair, he felt obligated to buy it beens they brought it to him all that way. On my inspection i came to the conclusion it is a right lemon, everything need repairing or replacing but not only that its crabbing by atleast 3 to 4 inches. we need a shell in reasonable condition to swap all the running gear over to and hopfully make a decent run around. if any one knows of a decent shell let me know, thanks in advance..neale..

Ah ha, Yet nother 'ebay special'.
It's K buying parts on ebay, but almost every time I hrear of someone buying a complete Mini it turns out to be a pile of junk. I had a customer last year who had bought a '1970 Mk. 3 Mini Cooper 'S' 1255', reshelled into a 1972 and needing minor work to complete.
It was, in fact, re-shelled (badly) into a later shell and the front panel had been replaced to make the sub-frame fit, although this was not properly or safely welded on. It cost him about 32750 just to make it MoT-able, and even then it was nothing like a Cooper 'S'.It also needed as new engine as after connecting everything up and sourcing a matching pair of carbs, it turned out the bores were very worn and it had previously been run with the flywheel loose (it was still loose) which had knackered the flywheel.
What year is your friend's car. I'll have a word around about decent shells.

thanks for your replies but unfortuntly its to bad to start getting into... He asked me yesterday to pop round and sort a few problems out just so he can use it for work, the accelorator was sticking half throttle and he couldnt get more than 2000rpms without farting and coughing so i went round and fitted a new accel cable and messed with the carb, it seemed to run better with no air filter and housing so i gave it a 1 quarter turn clockwise which got it idling quite well ...excellent i thought....NOPE i was wrong, because it had a bit more power, the knackered clutch had almost no affect and only took me to about 20mph...verdict is undrivable. the worst thing is he payed.......wait for it......£900 which he payed outside of ebay in a private sale after reserve wasnt met. Now, he has owned atleast 10 maybe 15 mini in the past years so what he was thinking i dont know ,but it was a bit of a desprate buy due to the credit crunch, he wanted a cheap run about but a future project at the same time. he sold his motorbike and range rover along with other stuff to raise a deposit on a mortgage and the little bit left over went onto the mini. its gonna cost £300 to get it drivable which he hasnt got right now and at the same time its dead dead money as the MOT runs dry in feb 2010 and there is no way in the world that it will pass nxt time round, it must have a dodgy ticket now becase it just cant have passed 5 months ago. it has a battered zeemax kit with a huge horrible whale tail on the back that you can have a family dinner off, 2 1/2" twin DTMs sticking out the back which are extremely loud, holes in pretty much every panelon the car, i could go on about the problems for a long time but it takes me ages to type so im nearly done lol. hes gonna cut his losses (bigtime) and list it on ebay, the only thing is he will be "lucky" to get £400 and that would be off someone wanting the engine and wheels and other bit cus the shell is a scrappa. Im well gutted for him and i hope he can turn things round and not lose to much. st one eh!!!

shocking update. a guy came from newcastle on the train and bough it for £720. my pal told him everything about the car befor hand including the badly slipping clutch and he was happy to bye it with full intentions of driving back from birmingham to newcastle....lol...

within a few hours the phone rang and it was him, he wasnt happy.. "ive broke down 3 times" he said, "its over heating". im not suprised its over heating thou, you have to rev the life out of it to get it going cus the clutch was so bad, so down the motorway is an unthinkable task especialy that distance. at the end of the day he was told everything about the car, he force my pal to end it on ebay, he came to view the car and was still happy to hand the cash over. it was sold as seen out side of ebay but my buddy still refunded him £70 quid via pay pal eventhou he claim he had no paypal account which is why he wanted him to end it on ebay and pay cash (wierd or what?) oh well.

we went to view another mini in bromsgrove yesterday from ebay agen, an old R reg 1275 spi £800. when we got there he had it on jacks repairing somthing or other to got a MOT befor sale. Half of the carpet was stuck down which is never a good sign, but i got a bit lifted up and it was soaking wet under there, he said he had just vaxed it which he clearly hadnt cus it was filthy and covered in dust and bits, there was rot on heel board, on the outer sills and inner arches (hidden by big arches which were badly fitted), 2 tonne of filler in the boot, surface rust under evry bit of carpet i could lift but it gets much worse, it had had the id plate removed and a new V.I.N was stamped into the scuttle???????? then my buddy noticed that it had a later shell and it just crys out RINGER!!! we had to giv that 1 a miss. On the way home a little red mini sitting on 10"rims caught my eye it was parked tight up the house and looked like it wanted a new owner so we stopped and knocked his door, a friendly elderly guy opened the door and to my suprise he said yes its for sale. its a very tidy old V reg 1100 special which he restored himself many years ago. It was sprayed Audi red he stated which was put on 12 years ago and it still looked as fresh as the day it was done. it has been of the road for 5-7 years in his garage and he just pulled it out to make some space. he couldnt confirm how much he wanted but he did say runnig with tax and mot he recons its worth £1600, personly i think its worth a bit more but we will hav to wait till he calls.

In the meen time im going to see a nice little mini in telford tonite so hopfully we might find one that hasnt been butchered, ill let u no how i get on.
