03 x5 burning oil and smoking

Hi . Iam hopping someone can help me.I have an 2003 x5 30d which has covered 70000 miles.I have noticed it is smoking quite badly at times but mainly when first stated or when driven left and then started.not really blue smoke but cant really tell. it is using a bit more oil than normal though.Can someone give me any ideas.Thanks

Have the crankcase breather filter replaced first...These are servicale at 60k although this filter is still rarely changed.

Had car serviced today. they didnt no why it was smoking. i told them about the crankcase breather which they changed . and problem solved .Im well chuffed. thanks so much for your help. !
