Why no Lamborghini presence at the silverstone classic ?
Discussion

edited for accuracy - there's far too much evidence of the oldSovietmissileavoiders syndrome here, yet again and this smilie's the only response that makes sense.
Although, you might as well ask why there was no Ferrari presence at the Cholmondeley Castle Pageant of Power in Cheshire last weekend - and please don't say that was too far from the south east of England to contemplate.
Most cars have those engine-y things these days that can achieve the needed escape velocity to travel more than a few miles outside the M25 and even further north than Northampton...

Isn't the Silverstone Classic mainly focused around on-track classic racing?
TBH I didn't expect to see many Lamborghini's as they don't have as rich of a racing pedigree as Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Aston Martin etc.
Doh as is le mans classic and your point is. But seriously the silverstone classic felt very much like the old coys job. Met Valentino a good few years back at such an event. Now there's a top man. I'm not big into club events but perhaps next year something a little better could be organised. What you say David, Keenie in a 3 litre Marcus not good for the sport eh TBH I didn't expect to see many Lamborghini's as they don't have as rich of a racing pedigree as Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Aston Martin etc.

Apart from 12 POT and the black GT I was amazed that there wasn't any organised Lamborghini presence. Any reason for this ?. Had a great day yesterday and the whole event had a very nice feel to it. Mext Year ?
Hi GraemeQuite simple. The reason was that no one bothered to get in touch with the club's organiser and let the club know they were interested. It was posted on our calendar of events several months before and not one lamborghini owner said they wanted to go. We had all the ticket prices organised and where we were going to be etc. Leading horses etc. comes to mind
It would appear that the lack of Lambo & LCUK presence at Silverstone last weekend is bothering the "non" LCUK members more than the members!
How very very strange!!
Personally, I preferred to clock up the miles last weekend, rather than being parked up! Quite clearly that was the thought process of many other Lambo owners & LCUK members.
If, as an owner / LCUK member we choose not to support something, that is our choice! It is not the fault of the club!

Is anything being sorted for the 15th/16th August when the racing LP560's are supposed to make an appearance after the non show in May?
I am going but only in the daily car as I have been told by Silverstone there is no special secure parking arranged for Lambo owners, i.e. just park in the large car park outside the gates and walk in.

Thank you both for your more considered and reasonable opinions about the lack of LCUK at the Silverstone Historic this year. How very very strange!!

It's true to say that whist both your remarks certainly apply, there are other more mundane and gritty reasons that have become relevant as well - such is the nature of a car club in the UK, it seems!
LCUK may try to attend next year, should we survive yet another round of 'morale battering' from some quarters. Certainly the 'old' version of the Silverstone Historic Festival used to be the focus for our annual big meeting and could well be again, once we get the balance right between the various demands of certain groupings within (or recently within) the Club.
Not that it's any explanation or excuse to say this, but I think that the last few Silverstone Historic festivals haven't been a patch on the halcyon days of the late 1990s when LCUK would pitch up en-masse at a time that suited us on each of the three days of the event, park mostly near our marquee / area and occasionally get invited to blast around the track despite that lack of racing heritage!

In 1999, I had the deeply exhausting experience of driving a famously black Countach 5000S over 200 miles to the Silverstone Historic event, staying sort-of close in a hotel for all three days with the Club, plus eating too much, drinking too much, probably, driving a good bit in between, attempting to sleep in less than well-cooled hotel rooms, repeatedly arguing the toss with the self-righteous Afrikaaner security thugs on the gate, attempting conversions with folk from Lamborghini Club France who are just deranged nutters really but not as crazy as the 'ed-the-balls from the German Classic Lamborghini Club who were also there and then 200+ miles back with no working speedo, a bloodied left hand from the handbrake's (sharp!) metal cover plate and also spending some ££££excessive on fuel and other stuff whilst simultaneously losing nearly 3 kilos in body weight at a time when I was already a very skinny 67 Kg.
Wouldn't swap those memories for the world... might even dig out a photo or two...
David great days. My first experience of the event was when I tipped up in my 964 3.6 turbo which I parked within the Lambo area. No complaints just did not fancy parking with the 10,000 porsche's when most of my mates where in Lambo's. That night I was due out to dinner with a good mate, cruelist of fate the Porsche refused to start. Danny who I had never met before chucked me his keys to his 5000S. Said leave the keys on the offside rear tyre I'll pick it up later. He knew of me but had never met me. What a top man. My first ever drive of a Lamborghini what can I say.

Haha! Weston manor Coys Lambo weekend (i was there last weekend) happy days indeed, party time! i remember them well. I also remember mischeviously parking my F40 early on sunday morning plum centre on the Lambo stand, & then listening to the tannoy asking me to kindly remove it all day! all this while Valentino & Sandro Munari were telling me to leave it there as they thought it was a "bootiful car"
can interlopers still come if you arrange another one, a few of the older members might remember why i am asking,
!Mr B
Mr. B.,
when was anybody ever able to stop you coming to any of our events with whatever car you had?
Why on earth would anybody ever want to?

I dug this out from the archives; a very Mr. Bridger 'moment' at Weston Manor involving your XJ220 and 'some' Lambos in '97 and the aforementioned 5000S owner with one of his closer haircuts!

It's a scruffy ol' pic really, from film and a badly printed photo which was scanned but now has data-rot setting in after multiple back-ups of the file since 1997 plus reformatted again here but still some obvious and well known cars involved for anybody to recall who was there...
Do you have a Lambo at the moment Mr. B or are you still just struggling along with other stuff?

It was a long time ago!The "gentleman" in the picture looks like a thug, & i deny any knowledge of ever knowing or speaking to him! thanks for the picture though.
No Lambo at present (my old countach is for sale at Elms Collection), so still having to make do with my old runabouts.
thanks,
Mr B
